New CPAP user w/ a couple questions

Post by Alantitus » Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:04 pm

Hello I’m new to the forum and to CPAPs. Just started less than three months ago. I just have a couple questions.

1 I have been having issues with dry mouth. I’ve already gotten a lot of tips from the forum that should help. Just wondering, (for the people who also get it) how long does the dry mouth last? It used to be just a few hours after I woke up. But lately it’s been all day and doesn’t matter how much water I drink. Does this happen to anyone else?

2. I see some people here talking about making adjustments to their machine themselves. How do you do that? As far as I know, I’m not able to do that. My doctor has to do it.

Thank you

Any one can make adjustments to their machine..it's a matter of pressing a couple buttons. Go to this site and request the Clinical Manual for your "specific" machine. https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

dry mouth doesn't last all day for me. i use xylimelts and that helps overnight. you may not have your therapy optimized. if you get your settings and your mask set up right, you should be good and not have to face dry mouth all day.

speaking of mask setup, we'd like to know what your equipment is. it can make make difference in the advice given to you. so please go to your profile and fill in your equipment. we don't all necessarily have the same machine or mask or combination thereof. once you fill it in, it will appear at the bottom of your post just as it does on mine.

many of us here feel it's better to take our therapy into our own hands. we set our own adjustments without doctor interference. this is another case where it makes a difference which machine it is.

if you are ready to make your own adjustments, do as lsat suggests and get the clinical manual for your machine.

please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. just ask them right here in this thread. we are happy to help you out.

good luck!

OH!! and welcome to the zoo.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

If it's lasting that long (or even somewhat) you likely have other problems and I'd see your doctor and/or dentist regardless of Cpap.

My dry mouth from cpap goes away as soon as I swish some water around in my mouth.

Dry mouth that lasts all day.....I would be looking at medications first.

Thanks everyone.
And I’ll fill out my equipment when I get home.
I appreciate it.
