Sore throat

Post by Cartymor » Wed Dec 04, 2019 4:32 pm

Hi, I’m a CPAP machine user for over ten years and have been doing fine. I use nasal pillows. But for the last year or so I have a sore throat especially in the morning . I’ve checked it out medically and all’s ok. I wonder if it’s caused by my sleep apnea.
Anyone have a similar problem ? Anyone have a cure ?

Could it be acid reflux (GERD), which is very common in apneics?

I agree with Julie.....Try elevating the head of your bed 4-6" and also try to sleep on your left side.

It also could be a side effect from a medication.
It could even be a drug you have taken for much longer.
Not all side effects start right away.
It took years for metformin to give me the "trots".

Yes, I think kim49's question is a good one. Before I started using an effective chin strap, I had mouth breathing problems when using a nasal pillows mask which caused my mouth to be dry. And a dry mouth, if it got bad enough became a dry throat, and a dry throat was somehow frequently vulnerable to becoming a sore throat.

Something that happened to me on past cpap and now bipap is humidifier gives me problems and sore throat but cancelling out the humidified and removing it helps. Although the machines don’t really do anything for me I can’t get restorative rest anyway or REM much at all but I would try not using the humidifier that may help you
