Is mild untreated apnea bad?

Post by joeljjk11 » Tue Nov 26, 2019 6:14 pm

So I have been using my CPAP machine for about five years with little success at achieving low AHI numbers. My numbers are consistently horrible, around 10 each night. I have experimented with varying levels of pressure with no consistent success. When I bring up to my sleep doctor that my numbers are bad she has said to not worry that much about it and it is more important how I feel. I don’t feel that bad and I sleep decently through the night, but I am young and also think I would feel a lot better if I could control my sleep apnea. I take a sedating med at night which I have always felt makes my apnea way worse and almost untreatable. I mean am I going to have health problems if I continue down this path of not being able to treat my apnea? I am lost at what to do after five years of this.

If you do not have Oscar, get it.

https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Post your chart with graphs and maybe someone on here can help with your settings.
Or see/come up with something you haven't thought of.

You're taking a sedating med at night that makes your apnea worse... why?

Joel....you might pull up one of your old threads where you discussed your other health issues and some past charts...along with why you have to be on that particular medication.
Your situation is rather unique and not a common problem.
Just find one of your other old threads where your particular special issues have been discussed and post a link to it.
Otherwise most of the forum members are going to be sort of lost and missing some important history in your case.

Sleeping pills don't give you natural sleep and cause more harm than benefit. What's worse is you develop a tolerance and when you stop them, you can get rebound insomnia. If you have trouble sleeping try cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia it has good results.

If your AHI is tenish with the CPAP, it might be fiftyish without! While ten is too high, even higher is even worse!

Yeh, and even a hundredfiftyish would be even worseish. :(

At diagnosis, my untreated AHI was only 13.
Cpap totally changed my life.
Yes, untreated apnea can mess you up really bad!
