OSCAR Results

Post by Geer1 » Fri Nov 15, 2019 1:45 am

Here are my results, 0.5 AHI, CPAP definitely helped although I think it still could be fine tuned. Wore it for a while before sleeping (12:01 is transition, leaks prior were me opening mouth to give reference in OSCAR). Didn't sleep well and woke up a number of times so didn't feel rested even though AHI was good, know it will take some getting used to though.

These are what the CA/OA events looked like.

These are some other spots that caught my eye. There were a fair number of instances that don't meet event criteria but probably could be improved. Curious why the last one wouldn't have been flagged as a hypopnea though?

I'll probably raise minimum pressure to 8 to see if that gives improvement but will leave as is for now since therapist is monitoring.

There is nothing to fine tune

Wait until you see a flagged hyponea right in the middle of what appears to be a normal breath.
As to why that last graph with obvious flow rate reduction didn't earn a flag.....your guess is as good as mine.
There was a bit of a gulp of air just prior to the reduction though...arousal maybe??? You are going to find that looking at this stuff under the microscope sometimes causes more questions than it answers. This data was never really designed for this sort of evaluation or level of microscope looking. It's not perfect because the machine isn't perfect.

The 2 middle graphs for the flow rate....the irregularities are arousal breathing...you woke up and may or may not remember it.

You didn't sleep well...doesn't surprise me that you don't feel so rested. Best numbers in the world don't guarantee good sleep quality and for sure don't guarantee feeling the good numbers. There's so much more to feeling the good numbers than just getting them.
Fragmented sleep....just kills sleep quality when there is very much of it and then we aren't going to feel so great the next day.
Lots of causes for fragmented sleep and not all related to apnea.
For newbies to therapy....just the newness of it all and the brain coming to accept this new way of sleeping is a big cause of fragmented sleep.
Took my brain 3 months to quit waking me often during the night just to tell me there was an alien on my face blowing air up my nose.

Definitely remember multiple arousals.

Last night was the same, feeling run down this morning... Didn't get to sleep till late then multiple arousals, many of the spikes in flow rates agree. Only a single CA event flagged. I know it will take some time to get use to.

Before I did sleep test I recorded myself sleep and noticed that before almost every arousal there was an arm or leg movement. Now that I know CPAP keeps breathing under control I will have to record myself again and see if that is still the case or if those twitches appear to be gone now. Probably should wait a while to let body adjust to CPAP first though.

I know this data is far from enough to be able to micro analyze but it does seem to tell a fair bit, mostly if there are still small restrictions just not triggering events(like that hypopnea and I had a number of smaller ones under 10 seconds that would never be flagged) and sort of being able to see arousals. A person needs EEG, EMG, Belts, Oximeter etc to make any further analysis but I can't get a level 1 test so I'll just do my few little tests and if I am still having arousals from limb movements will speak to doctor/therapist about level 1 or what to try to improve that.
