Back up battery for Air Sense 10 with a pressure of 20

Post by Bern » Thu Nov 14, 2019 12:31 pm

Having problems finding a back-up power for my CPAP since my pressure is so high. 5 or 6 hours would be acceptable. Medistrom failed me (last 1 hour). MaxOak K5 maybe ok but hard to tell (well for me anyway). Hoping someone can help. I am open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Well, I you want to save money, buy the 12v cable, a mobility s ioter battery, and a battery tender to keep it charged.

Thank you so much. A follow-up question if I may. I keep reading 12V (and I saw on the resmed chart). But on the CPAP "storage and travel..." sticker it reads DC24V and 3.75A . I'm pretty much stupid with tech tech stuff. The 12V cable is ok to use?

I apologizes if my question makes no sense. I'm not sure how to properly word it.

Side note: I'm the type of person who is willing to spend more if it means less hassle :-)

Yes, because it converts 12v to the 24v the unit needs.

ResMed machines do operate on 24 volt DC. The 12 volt cable for the ResMed machines step the voltage up to 24 volts. Responics machines, on the other hand, operate on 12 volts DC.

But still require a special cable...

In the end, it doesn't really matter, you've got one end of a cable that hooks to 12v, and the other end that hooks to the machine... magic happens somewhere along the cable.

I believe the Resmed DC-DC can operate from 12V or 24V in because it is a boost-buck converter.

Using two 12V batteries in series will cut the current in half. Since batteries are generally less efficient at high current, using two in series should more than double the run time, especially at higher pressure.

I don’t know if the 3rd party DC-DC is also rated for 24V in.

because it is a boost-buck converter.
As an aside, I haven't seen any evidence that it's a buck converter, just a boost converter,

If it were a buck converter, it'd be rated for higher than 24 volts, too.
