New User Results much diff than sleep test
nI just started using the Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset. Sleep test results says that my rate was 55.5. I am thinking that those results are totally wrong because my first night my results were .5. had a horrible sleep that night I don't really think I slept much at all. Last night's results said that I had no interrupted sleep. Is it possible 4 me to have such a large difference in my results?

Hello Penguinjane! It sounds as though your CPAP therapy is highly effective, which is great. Many people (including me) feel they hardly slept during their sleep study, but it turns out our impressions about this are often not very reliable. What kind of sleep test did you have? Were you in a sleep lab? Did you get wired up for EEG monitoring?
If you have a copy of your sleep study, feel free to post it here so the experts can take a look. You'd want to remove any identifying information first.

The machine doesn't know whether you are asleep or awake. The events it reports are breathing events, not awakenings.Penguinjane wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:10 amLast night's results said that I had no interrupted sleep.
As a general rule with some exceptions, breathing events don't occur when you are awake. So, for the periods you were awake, the machine will report zero or near zero events.

Welcome to the forum.
The results shown from the machine are after treatment results....we have no way to know how many apnea events were prevented but what you see reported are the few that the machine couldn't prevent.
Think of it compared blood pressure treatment.
You have high blood pressure and you take a pill for it and the results end up with you getting a nice low blood pressure.
The pill reduces the blood pressure.
The cpap therapy reduces the number of times the airway closes up.
You are seeing the end result and not the pre therapy result.
Or think of it as when a person wears eye glasses...as long as they wear their glasses the vision is normal but do without and vision goes back to being troublesome.

Re: New User Results much diff than sleep test
Since you are not getting much sleep, it's a good idea to review the following checklist.Penguinjane wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:10 amhad a horrible sleep that night I don't really think I slept much at all.
Good Sleep for CPAPers
- Practice good sleep hygiene (Google it and read several sources; ignore extreme advice.)
- Eat a good diet
- Have a regular, moderate exercise program
- Try to avoid daytime naps
- Practice total abstinence of caffeine including sources like chocolate (sigh)
- Review all medicines, vitamins and supplements you are taking to make sure none are interfering with sleep
- Use the bedroom for sleeping (and sex) only, and make sure the bedroom and bed are comfortable.
- Learn to appropriately handle emotional stress in your life
- Do not listen to your breathing or the sound of the machine as you are falling asleep. (Some people, including me, actually find listening to their breathing and the sound of the machine to be relaxing.)
- Distract your mind by thinking of a pleasant, relaxing activity that you enjoy.
- If you are awakening at night, do not be too concerned. It is actually a normal part of sleep. (It does become a problem though for people who, when they awaken, become frustrated and have difficulty returning to sleep.)
- Use CPAP software, such as the free OSCAR (or the free SleepyHead), to make sure your therapy is optimized
- If you still don't feel or sleep well, make sure you have regular medical checkups to confirm there are no other medical problems
This is a checklist. Some of the things you already do. Some are easy and can be done right away. Others you can work at over time.

Re: New User Results much diff than sleep test
My sleep study was done at home. When I did the sleep study I woke up and found out that the belt had fallen off. After that I was not able to get back to sleep really at all. I'm hoping when I go to the doctor at the end of the month I will get more detailed information about my report. I know the main reason I did not sleep well the first night was because it was my first night with the CPAP LOL.

Is it possible to go from seeing nothing, to being able to see clearly when putting on glasses?Penguinjane wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:10 am. Is it possible 4 me to have such a large difference in my results?
When your vision is treated, you see great improvement, same with CPAP.
But without the glasses... Or without CPAP...

Get a copy of the summary of your sleep report. Ask the people that keep the records. The doc is probably not used to handling requests like this, so don't bother him. If you are in the US, it's your legal right to have a copy. It's a good thing to keep in a permanent file at home.Penguinjane wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 12:55 pmI'm hoping when I go to the doctor at the end of the month I will get more detailed information about my report.
