International Travel

Post by MVP Travels » Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:35 pm

I am looking for information for traveling internationally mainly to Europe. We will be taking cruises, as well as other tours. I currently use a ResMed S9 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with ResMed Swift™ FX Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear for my sleep apnea. I have been a user for 12 years, I mainly use the machine with cool humidifier religiously every night. Of course, without it complete sleep is impossible. I have never traveled outside of the US or been on a flight for more than 4 hours. My concern is first Airline Travel, second machine suggestions (Like ResMed), electrical issues, etc. I would appreciate any suggestions since I am due an upgrade this month and want to make sure I pick the best machine for travel with all the necessary power concerns. Thanks for any advice. Have been keeping up with the board for years and enjoy the information that is shared. Thanks.

My husband and I travel internationally with our CPAPs all the time. We have travelled all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and my husband has also been to Viet Nam, Thailand, and Malaysia. He uses an Airsense 10 Autoset without humidification  , I used to travel with my home machine an Airsense 10 Autoset for Her with humidification. I now travel with an AirMini I have hacked to use my Bleep mask which, sadly, means no humidification. If you can use one of the masks that come with it, HumidEX is an option. The AirMini really works well for me for travel and I probably use it a total of 2-3 months a year, spread over short and long trips.

The only time I used my AirMini on a flight was when we flew Business to New Zealand. I had no issues. For the shorter flights to Europe (in Premium Economy), I really can't sleep anyway, so I don't get out my machine.

We cruise several, with hotel stays before and after. You will need an adapter for hotels. My husband carries an extension cord in case there are not 2 plugs bedside since we both have CPAPs. Not an issue for the cruise ships. Also, when I used my Autosense, my travel agent notified the cruise line and they provided distilled water for use in my humidifier.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask me, either here or via PM.
