HI GUYS....I HAVE BEEN A CPAP USER FOR 3 YEARS NOW....WITH HELP FROM THIS SITE, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DIAL IN THERAPY.....HOWEVER, I HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE AEROPHAGIA.....I HAVE RESMED AIRSENSE 10 AUTO...I HAVE TRIED TO USE EPR BUT STILL HAVE PROBLEMS....I HAVE USED A CONSTANT PRESSURE WITH THIS MACHINE OF 10.4....I THINK IF I COULD BUMP TO 10.6 ALL WOULD BE WELL.....BUT THE AEROPHAGIA HAS BEEN A DISRUPTER.....SO, THANKS TO LSAT, HE HOOKED ME UP WITH RESMED VAUTO.....JUST GOT IT TODAY.....SO MY THOUGHTS WERE IN GETTING THIS MACHINE, THAT I WOULD LIKE TO REALLY HAVE THE ABILITY TO REDUCE THE AIR WHEN I BREATHE OUT IN HOPES THAT MAYBE MY AEROPHAGIA WOULD REDUCE SOME.....NOW I'M PRETTY SIMPLE....I DON'T LIKE USING AUTO MODE....I PREFER TO KEEP PRESSURES SET, AS I NEVER HAD GOOD RESULTS WITH AUTO MODES......SO IN PLAYING WITH THE SETTINGS, I'M NOT SURE ON SOME OF THESE CATEGORIES AND I'M LOOKING FOR A LITTLE GUIDANCE FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE MACHINE...…
1. I SEE I HAVE THE OPTION TO SET AT CPAP, S OR VAUTO....MY GUESS IS THAT I NEED TO BE ON THE S MODE SINCE I DONT WANT TO USE THE VAUTO MODE.....
SO MY QUESTIONS ARE:
2. WHAT DOES EASY BREATHE MEAN.... 6. CYCLE
3. TI MAX 7. ESSENTIALS
4. TI MIN
5. RISE TIME
NOW WHEN I STARTED PLAYING WITH IT IN THE S MODE, I NOTICED THAT ON EXHALE, IT WOULD GO TO THE LEVEL I SET, HOWEVER, WHEN I WOULD BREATHE IN, IT WOULD DO LIKE A QUICK PULSE UP TO MY 10.6 MAX LEVEL AND I COULD SEE THE JUMP OF THE GRAPH LINE TO THAT, BUT ITS VERY QUICK, MUCH LIKE A BURST OF AIR AND THEN QUICK DROP.....I FIND THIS TO BE A BIT DISTURBING.....SO NOT SURE IF IM DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR IF THIS IS THE WAY IT IS.....
IT ALSO SHOWS ABOVE THE GRAPH, PS 4.6 NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS......ALSO WHAT I FIND INTERESTING, IF I DON'T BREATHE IN RIGHT AWAY OR I ON PURPOSE HOLD MY BREATH, IT STARTS TO AUTO PULSE THE PRESSURE... A BIT WEIRD, BUT AGAIN, MAYBE I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG...…
SO ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED GUYS...

First, a plea: please do not use all caps when posting content on the internet, in general. It's hard to read, and it's considered code word for yelling.mlsrealty wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 5:24 pm1. Now, your questions; I'll just focus on the mode one, since it simplifies two others things:
I recommend you use the VAuto mode, and see no reason not to. If you want to keep the pressure stable, you can configure it that way; just set the max IPAP at min EPAP + PS.
That will also give you FL tracking, which S mode doesn't have.
Easy Breathe is also on by default (and can't be turned off) with VAuto, and you definitely want that.

Re: NEWBIE WITH BI LEVEL MACHINE, QUESTIONS
While true for Respironics not true for ResMed. ResMed machines give FL tracking in all modes except the really special high end modes like ST-A or IVAPS.
PS is pressure support which is nothing but the difference between inhale and exhale.
PS of 3 would be similar to EPR at 3 in that the difference between inhale and exhale is 3 cm.
That's FOT kicking in. The machine senses no air is moving and it uses FOT to help it figure out if the reason is because of a central apnea (airway open) or obstructive apnea (airway closed off by airway tissues).
Essentials category....make sure it is set to "Plus" so you can get more details on the sleep report available on the LCD screen
Ti min and max...leave them at the defaults for now.
Cycle...play with each setting for cycle to see if you find it is more in sync with your breathing rhythm.
Rise time...might also play with it to see if it helps with syncing up the breathing rhythm
Did you get the provider manual that explains what all these features mean?
If not, go here and request it via email.

Re: NEWBIE WITH BI LEVEL MACHINE, QUESTIONS
ResMed doesn't show flow limitations or snoring in ST or iVAPS therapy modes for whatever reason.
OP, the reason it's very quickly giving you the full inhale pressure is because in S mode the default rise time setting is "min" which is very fast. 300ms is generally a comfortable rise time for most people.
Why are you opposed to VAuto mode?

Re: NEWBIE WITH BI LEVEL MACHINE, QUESTIONS
Are you 100% sure of that?
I only used S mode for a couple/few nights, but on those nights, the VAuto reported absolutely 0 FL, with nothing on the graph.
In a few months on VAuto since, there's not been a single night with 0.

Well now that you mention it....slowriter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 6:55 amAre you 100% sure of that?

The Elite cpap does FLs though...
I did use S mode on a AirCurve 10 ST machine I had and I am pretty sure I got FL graph with it but it's been a long time and I will admit my memory sucks as I get older.
If I can remember ....I will test out S mode tonight and see what happens with FLs but I may not be a good marker to go by because my FLs have never been very remarkable no matter what machine I have ever used.
But you are correct....the VAuto could be set up to function like S mode functions very easily and that would take the guess work out of it.
