FYI - "I don't think you want your machine continually looking for reasons to increase the pressure up to 20."

This was the answer I got from an actual sleep tech(allegedly) :D

This all makes sense to me. I believe someone on another thread/site was claiming that having a narrower range somehow affects the algorithm in one way or another.
People that don't know what they're babbling about say all sorts of stupid, misleading and sometimes harmful things.

I mean, *technically* raising your min does "narrow your range", but that's not what the "narrow the range" people usually mean... Ignore them, they don't understand how the auto machines work.

They increase pressure due to obstructive apnea's, hypopneas, snores and flow limitations. All that a lowered max setting does is prevent the machine from increasing pressure... It really is that simple.

The way you both explain it makes complete sense to me. It seems people are shocked, even dismayed when I post my range but I assume it is more because of the minimum than the range necessarily.
Could just be they are ignorant of how things really work...

I'm not surprised. There are a *lot* of ignorant sleep techs out there spouting absolute bullshit... Including the old chestnut "it's illegal for you to change your own pressure".

If sleep doctors were always right, and sleep techs were right, and they gave great advice and care...

THIS FORUM WOULD NOT EXIST! There would be no need for it.

You are going to find lots of varying opinions about almost everything related to auto adjusting pressures from sleep techs and doctors and lay people.
A lot of the old way of thinking from back with auto adjusting was brand new and not understood still hangs around.

I probably would have told that sleep tech that I certainly didn't want the machine ignoring stuff that might hurt me either. Then rolled my eyeballs at him.

Not considered cheating. We have our own share of members here that think that fixed is better than auto adjusting for various reasons.

You are going to find that everything related to cpap/apnea/masks/pressures...and I mean everything...will come with a huge YMMV sticker. People will respond most of the time with whatever works for them as being the best because that is all they know.
Just remember one man's trash is another man's treasure when it comes to anything in the realm of cpap or masks or whatever.

You are getting opinions....not the gospel set in stone.... from everyone here and that includes myself.

Yes I am hoping to get to a set number sooner than later but I'm sure there will be some bumps along the way. It's amazing how many people are out here looking to help others. Maybe that will be me one day :)

I actually heard back from my doc!! Via email, He said my numbers look good and based on the awakenings and our original consultation ordered a titration test at sleep lab. For whatever reason today I felt totally spaced out. I'm thinking of going back to 5 and see how that goes. Aerophagia isn't terrible but still there.
