Dry Mouth

Post by navigator101 » Tue Oct 01, 2019 6:01 am

I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea about a month ago. I am on a Resmed machine. I had no problem getting used the the mask etc, and it is comfortable to me, and i have no problem getting to sleep.
My number one issue is I wake up at least 2, sometimes 3 times a night with terrible dry mouth. The machine is working fine, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere by waking up several times during the night.
I have turned up the humidity in my machine, but that hasn't helped any. I also realize that they say medications can cause this. I usually take my meds between
6-7 depending on when I eat my evening meal, then don't go to bet till around 11:30 or so. Is/has anyone else dealt with this. (this dry mouth issue started before I got the machine)

Have you tried any of the XYLIMELTS, or biotene or thera-breath products?

I used them all for a while when I was worried about drymouth primarily because I was worried about my dental health. They all worked to varying degrees.

Eventually I tapered off and don't seem to have the issue anymore. I do sleep with a thermos of water and I do drink during the night. I have other issues besides sleep apnea and I try to stay super hydrated.
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

You're probably leaking all the Cpap air out of your mouth... can you try a full face mask that'll let you mouth breathe without losing therapy air.
