Hard time with masks due to a few problems

Post by _Kingpin_ » Sat Sep 28, 2019 4:21 pm

Hello everyone hoping I can get some insight.
Equipment:
Resmed Airsense 10
Use the humidifier and heat function
Airfit F30
Heated hose.

New user since May this year.

I have started to have worse than normal leaks with my mask on the lower edges.
When I inhale and please excuse me when I say this but I get what sounds like farting noises. LOL
May sound strange but it is what it is.
My leaks seam to average about 40L/min according to resmeds site. Sometimes even worse up to 80L. But my events per hour are now less then 1.5 compared to the 110 during my sleep study.
I shave every other day and no matter what I get leaks.
I will wash my face or wipe it with facial wipes and also clean the mask with Mask anti bacterial wipes every morning. I've tried different types of soaps thinking maybe they are leaving a residue with no luck.
It's got the point where after about an hour of sleep I am waking up and throwing the mask off.

I am mostly a mouth breather and I'm sure it doesn't help that I have a severe underbite where I can't even pull my jaw back enough for my teeth to meet.
Second issue is I have an abnormally long and wide tongue like a dog. LOL
It doesn't rest inbetween my teeth but over top of them.
I think this is the main reason I sleep with my mouth open.
I also have chubby cheeks.

I am thinking about trying a dreamwear mask in the future but since the F30 cost me so much I'm leary to spend another $150 CAD on another.

Thanks for any info.

Mask farts are a common complaint. Quite often, a mask liner will help with that problem. In my case, I found that using a firm foam cervical collar stopped most of them. The collar helps to keep my chin up and my mouth closed, which stopped my dry mouth. I think most of my mask farts was caused by my chin dropping down and my mouth coming open; the collar has helped with that.
