Strange Lip Irritation from Wisp Mask

Post by mefa4268 » Thu Sep 26, 2019 11:17 am

Hi everyone -

First time posting - I've searched your archives and saw older posts on this issue, but I feel like my case is a little different.

I have a new Wisp nasal mask that I started on Tuesday.

Woke up Wednesday morning with a very swollen lip.

My lip looked like it had a grid of white heads - which is similar to what has happened with my nose and my lower nostril. A cluster of white heads - that when turn into a big blister.

This morning - after a night using my nasal pillows (thank god for a back up mask) - the upper lip is still swollen, but the white heads seems to have merged into a blister.

Is this a cold sore now? I am so lost and confused.

Anyone have any experience with something similar? Do I pop the blister? Do I use cold sore medication.

I find it hard to believe that this is a cold sore because there were individual white heads - and no tingling leading up to it - but I also read that the CPAP can cause aggravation.

Help!!!

This is not a result of cpap, but of stress/ APNEA/finally being treated.
(And having chicken pox as a kid)
The symptoms line up perfectly to a cold sore--herpes.
Lucky you never had it until now.
I have been afflicted during times of stress since I was 10.
The first time was just in time for class pictures.---My lip looked HIDEOUS.
Ask your doctor for an antiviral to take at the first tingle--if any.
Sometimes there is no warning.
I found that getting the shingles vaccine helped a bit as well.
A mask liner might help for now--or a mask that doesn't touch near your sore.
Never pop a blister--use an ice pack to dull the pain.

Don't know if the sore you describe is a cold sore. 2 cold sores erupted on upper edges of my lip at the end of a week of cpap stress.

Solutions: the first one tingles in the middle of the night, very inconvenient. 2nd one tingles the next day. I held an ice cube wrapped in paper towel on it for 10 minutes. 2nd sore has not come into full bloom. Also started taking L-lysine twice daily, and applied Abreva cream. Now under control.

I also made a cloth wrap for my DreamWear nasal cushion. It covets the silicone and has openings just for the large inhale slot, small exhale screen, and 2 headgear attaching ports. It's comfy and has snaps for quick removal in the night if needed.

Good luck on healing your sore nose.

Good Lord!
I certainly hope it's gone!
Nine weeks is way long .
