Modify water tank on AirCurve 10 for adding water
Modify water tank on AirCurve 10 for adding water
I use the SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizing Machine with AirSense 10 Adapter and so pulling out the water chamber and opening the lid to add water is cumbersome AT BEST. I am considering making a modificatio to the top of the chamber so that I can pour water in through the closed lid WITHOUT sliding it out of the AirCurve 10. I propose removing the white thumb traction plate (Not sure what else to call it...) that helps you grip the chamber to pull it out, putting a hole in that area that is large enough to pour into, and sealing it with a stopper like one would use in an old fashion sink drain (though smaller, obviously).
Has anyone modified their humidifier tank to add water without removing it from the bipap/cpap? Does anyone have a successful process for doing this?
Thanks!

Removing the humidifier every 3 days for filling doesn't seem to be a problem for me...I can spare 3 minutes.

I'm with Lsat, I don't find filling the tank a problem.

IMHO, the very best thing you can do to prevent the growth of algae, molds, and bacteria is to regularly empty the chamber and let it air dry.revjlw wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:57 amI use the SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizing Machine with AirSense 10 Adapter and so pulling out the water chamber and opening the lid to add water is cumbersome AT BEST. Add a float and needle valve to the tank. (like the one in a gas engine carburetor)
Set a 55 gal. drum on a stand higher than the tank.
Fill the drum with water and let gravity do the job.
Probably last you a few years.

Laziness is an excellent marketing tool--now isn't it?
Washing my washable supplies, WHEN NEEDED, refilling the tank, no big deal.
One wonders how inconvenient basic bodily hygiene is to one so afflicted.

Re: Modify water tank on AirCurve 10 for adding water
You guys are a pretty unfriendly crowd. I joined this site to ask questions and to learn. I'm new at this.
I am not a troll. Why is it a stupid question?
I have no idea why someone would post an icon of the SoClean being tossed in a garbage can. Is there some constructive criticism you can provide or point me to? Is there a reason you are negative about the SoClean? I'd love to learn something rather than be mocked. Do you have anything you could teach me based on your experience?
It isn't a matter of lazy, it is a matter of spilling water on my nightstand and floor because the tank top is now connected to the SoClean with tubing. I fill my tank daily because I use up the water nightly, even when filled to the MAX fill line. So each night I slide it out and fill it using a measuring cup so that I don't have to detach the tubing and thereby stretch it out. I never said that I never remove the tank and clean it. If I were so lazy, I likely would not have asked the question and considered doing the work to make the modification!
Seriously, thanks for the rude welcome on my first attempt at joining this group of experienced CPAP users.

As D Slobber said.
Then fill and clean as needed.

Because it is a harmful device, best returned for a refund, failing that, throwing away.

Re: Modify water tank on AirCurve 10 for adding water
Starting broadly, it is worth noting the distinction between cleaning and sanitizing. Cleaning removes biofilm and other debris (drool, snot, oils, etc). The SC generates and applies ozone to your unit-- a sanitizing agent. That does not actually remove any of the biofilm. In other words, SC is not a cleaner per se.
There are decent studies that show CPAP does not make you more likely to become ill. There is nothing I have seen which suggests cleaning beyond normal soap and water is necessary.
While I will not weigh in on any of the criticisms, here some of the other comments posted here:
Exposure to ozone is dangerous. You still need to remove the biofilm. Class action lawsuit. it may degrade components. It is costly. The consumables have a very high mark up. Not great studies about efficacy... especially if there is uncleaned biofilm. But ozone can be a powerful disinfectant. Most germs are going to already be our germs.
In the end, your money and your choice. Given my mix of health issues, I worry about mold/mildew. Standing water is a bad thing for that. Every morning I pull the humidifier chamber, dump any water and let it air dry. At bed, I refill and reinsert the humidifier.
Each morning I also use a wipe on the inside of mask. Weekly, I wash everything and dry it using a hurricane dryer.
Do you have any particular issues such as post transplant, apba type asthma, etc?

Thanks, Tropicaldiver. I'll look into these concerns further. Very helpful. I have no immune system concerns, so disinfecting may be overkill.

Re: Modify water tank on AirCurve 10 for adding water
I have a ResMed AirSense 10 Cpap device at the bottom of the bedside table. There is little space anyway. It is difficult to remove the tank every time you add water. Requires acrobatics to bend on the bed to remove the tank from the unit at the lower level of the bedside table.
I thought that I drill hole of about 2 cm to the water tank, I place a plug to hole. I was thinking of pouring some water into the tank with a thin jug.
Some say the tank should be washed every day. In my opinion, washing once a month is enough.
