Setup of DEVILBISS 9000D

Post by DennisSenior » Sat Feb 24, 2007 12:24 am

Can anybody out there tell me how to set the pressure on my 9000D? I have had it for about 5 years and the pressure was set at 8. I just went through a sleep study and my new prescription is 12. Any hints?

If no one here can tell you, you should be able to take it to the sleep lab where you had your recent sleep study and they should be able to reset your pressure on your DeVilBiss 9000D.

Actually, if you have insurance or have Medicare and your DeVilBiss 900D is 5 years old, you most likely are eligible for an entirely new machine. Since you have 5 year experience sleeping w/CPAP you might want to explore that route and all the neat new features available since the DeVilBiss 9000D was produced.

If it were me, I'd keep ole faithful as a backup and go w/a Respironics RemStar Auto w/C-Flex and integrated humidifier (if you use one) if I had to buy a new CPAP out of pocket. You can find one brand new, in the box, sealed in plastic w/manual(s) and humidifier for $450-$500 at yahooauctions.

If I had good insurance w/low co-pay (and annual deductible since it is early in the year) I'd go w/a RemStar Auto w/C-Flex M series or a Resmed S8 Vantage but you would have to have your doctor write a script for the specific brand and model or your DME will most likely try to pawn off a bare-bones compliance data only machine on you. (The AutoPAPs fall under the same HCPCS code as a straight CPAP but cost considerably more than a straight CPAP for the local DMEs meaning the get paid the same set amount regardless which machine they give you - meanwhile w/an Auto you get more "bang for the buck" at no more expense to you).

Another to seriously consider that I've heard GOOD things about tho have no experience w/is the Puritan Bennett (I think) GoodKnight (maybe the 420SE??).

All of these machines are capable of supplying lots of interesting information besides "just" compliance data and an AutoPAP can save you on further titration studies due to the data they do supply.

I'd also eventually, if not right off the get-go, buy the software and cable reader so I could download the info myself rather than having to rely on my DME or sleep lab to do so.

Now, my not being familiar w/the DeVilBiss 9000D, I have to clarify that what I've said does NOT apply if you need a Bi-PAP or Bi-level machine. From what you've said I am assuming you don't need a bi-level.

Dennis, here are instructions I saw once for a DeVilbiss 9055D, not the same model you have. The 9055D is apparently a bi-level ("bipap".) Anyway...perhaps these instructions will help:

DeVilbiss 9055d

1. Turn on the machine
2. Turn off the machine
3. Right after that, hold the down arrow down as well as the ramp button... while holding those 2 buttons down hit the power button and it takes you to the setup mode.
4. Scroll over using the Select button until you get to ipap and epap settings and use the up and down arrows to change the levels. When done turn off the machine.
