New Padacheek liner - “bad fit”! Why?

Post by Viraj3474 » Wed Sep 04, 2019 5:58 am

Yesterday I received the Padacheek liner for my Airfit 20 and put I t on the mask. It was relatively simple to do as the directions and pictures were helpful. I used it and slept great last night, feel great this morning, and even had dreams. Yet this morning the ResMed screen registered a bad mask fit. I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I am going to call Karen at Padacheek this morning and see what she has to say about this. I would appreciate comments about the “bad mask fit” since I slept so well! And let me know what your experiences are with the Padacheek liner. Thanks!

Did it ever seal for the night?
Facial hair? Sorry if you are female but I have no way to know and must ask.

Can you post the software report from last night and let's see just how bad that leak was?
Maybe 28 L/min or 68 L/min? 28 wouldn't be bad despite it being a little over 24.

Pad A Cheek liners are very popular and helpful for many forum members. They were designed to prevent contact dermatitis and face marks. Many users also found they help prevent mask links.

I don't always trust the leak report on my ResMed.
The "leak-moji" (frowny face) is not completely reliable.

Pugsy,
I would be happy to do this, but I don’t know how to “post the software report” to this forum. And to answer your question, No, I DON’T know if it ever sealed. I don’t recall it making that familiar “pop” that it usually does . . . Good point. I did wonder how the silicon part of the mask could seal with the liner around it. But I heard no leaks at all. Complete silence. I did feel air coming out from the hose vents when I touched the vent area, but no blowing air out the sides or bottom. (I suppose it couldn’t with the liner on.) In spite of the red face on the machine, I slept very well. I FEEL good. I don’t know what the heck to think. Can you send instructions on how to post the sleep report? To answer your question about facial hair — no facial hair. Sure appreciate your input.

Do you have the software yet?
If not you can get it here
https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

and how to and what to post explained here
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html

if that takes some time to sort out....tell me what it says on the machine for leak numbers for last night.
That at least gives me something to start with.
There is a mask fit feature on your machine....did you use it? If not, give it a try. Will let you fit the mask at your higher pressures and at least start out the night with a decent seal.

Mr Frowny face on the machine for mask fit shows up when we spend more that 30% of the night above 24 L/min.
There are degrees of bad when it comes to leaks...so looking at the report lets us evaluate just how bad and for how long.
So if you were barely bad for say 35% of the night and slept well... I wouldn't be so concerned as I might be if you were really bad and spent over half the night deep into large leak territory.

Actually up to around 35 L/min the machine does a decent enough job compensating for leak in terms of responding and recording so I really never do more than raise an eyebrow until I see more than 35 L/min leak and it's extremely prolonged.
Short periods of large leak that don't wake me up I ignore.

Pugsy,
I'm trying to follow your directions, but this is deeper computer maneuvering than I'm use to. It might take a little time. All new to me.

That's okay....what is the leak number showing on the machine LCD screen?
Do you know how to get to that?
You have to turn a setting in the setup menu called "Essentials" from On to Plus.
The manual explains how

Try these instructions:
wiki/index.php/Sleepyhead:Organize
And if there's stuff in there that's confusing, please let me know, so that I can make the instructions better.

WHOA! I don't know about this Pugsy. I'm not familiar enough with this to even know what it's asking. I have Oscar imported. I filled out most of the Profile information. It's on my PC. I have the Oscar main page up and its asking me what I would like to do. I guess it's import CPAP info, but then there's a question as to what file to place it in. It's at that point that all this is losing me. I can see OSCAR installed in my list of files. But I don't know where to send the CPAP import to. I think you've lost me. I see a warning here not to "insert the SD card" without locking (????) it or it will blow up    . This kind of talk makes me back off of this.

Can we try answering my question above in another way?

I realize that the bad fit mask is not always reliable, especially when I feel great the following morning. Anything else you can provide without the data above? Sorry for being a coward.

Your link just brings me back to this forum page . . . :(

I have to leave the house in less than an hour. If you get me a link I'll try and find the "essentials" you are talking about and post back here when I have more.

Ignore the warning to lock your SD card. That's for a different machine than you are using.
Let it download to the file it defaults to. Just tell it yes.

I can't offer any thoughts without at least knowing the leak number off the LCD screen and even that comes with some limitations.

Hmmm....the link takes me to the manual...don't know what or why it is doing that to you.
I just tried it.

But let me try again.

The link just won't send me to the manual. I think Norton or even Microsoft 10 is blocking it. I ran a search and have the resmed airsense 10 manual in front of me. I looked through the Table of Contents, but can't find "essentials". Any suggestions?

You probably got the user manual and not the clinical manual.

See if this link will take you to where you can get into the clinical manual setup area
https://www.apneaboard.com/resmed-airse ... setup-info

Essentials is in the "sleep report" section I think but you have to be in the clinical setup menu to access it.

Or request the full clinical manual from here via email attachment.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

Essentials is the level of data available on the LCD screen sleep report.
The default is "on" which just shows hours of use. The "plus" gives you AHI and leak numbers.
