I will be getting all my CPAP needs through Apria. Just went to their site to see what they do offer (no out of pocket for me at this time) and my brain shut done

https://www.apriadirect.com/cpap#/filte ... 3EMachines

Not sure which is full data. They offer ResMed and DreamStation but are they both full data?
Anyone who can look at above link, can you tell?
Here's a list.

Do you have to pick a full mask or nasal?

I wonder because if you have the nasal only, what happens if you are sick or allergy season hits??

Pick a mask that will work for you the majority of the time that you will be happy with.
Worry about what happens when sick later.
FWIW... over 10 years on cpap and I have had my share of colds and upper respiratory infections and not once have I ever not been able to use my usual nasal pillow mask.
I don't even own a full face mask.

Now some people do keep a full face mask handy just in case they aren't able to use their nasal mask but concentrate on your primary mask first.

Well, speaking for myself, I do whatever's necessary to open up my nose, nasal rinse (neti pot), saline spray, real sudafed, even a squirt or two of afrin (only at bedtime, so you don't get dependent).

I've been using a pillow mask for 5 years, the only night's I've missed were when I had a NG tube up my nose in the hospital... for that, I used a FFM.

That sounds like a good way to go. I have a Navage machine that I have seldom used, though I should probably do it at least twice a day, it's just a pain to get it out, use and then clean it up.

I use a full face mask when I have a gooey cold. My nose gets so sore that I can't stand anything touching around the nares when I'm sick, and sometimes I am just too congested to be able to breathe in a nasal mask (FWIW, I can't use decongestants or antihistamines). So a full face mask is the only way when I've got a cold.

If you are paying completely out of pocket, definitely get the mask you are most comfortable in 99% of the time, but you may want to have a FF mask for back up if you can afford it (or find one donated to you here--most people are trying to get rid of theirs!). To me it's a great comfort to have when needed.

That lanolin that we recommend for people getting used to nasal masks? it works great when you're sick and your nose starts getting sore, or put a bit on before... and it keeps it from happening :)

Would A&D Ointment work also? That is my go to for sore lips and outside of nose when irritated from being blown too often.

here is a list of ingredients per riteaid.com-

Active Ingredients: Lanolin (15.5%), Petrolatum (53.4%). Purpose: Diaper Rash Ointment. Skin Protectant. Inactive Ingredients: Cod Liver Oil (Contains Vitamin A & Vitamin D), Fragrance, Light Mineral Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin.

from here-

https://www.riteaid.com/shop/a-d-diaper ... -g-0031411

i'm not smart enough to know anything, so i don't know if this is safe for use in contact with the mask. perhaps chicago granny will come by soon and educate us.

btw, i'm a long time user of a & d to help promote healing on cuts and such. my wife has always made fun of me. she says "everyone knows that's used for diaper rash!",
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Prolonged exposure of the silicone in masks to petroleum products can cause things to degrade...might shorten the mask life.
There is also a risk of inhaling the petroleum oils and potentially causing a problem within the lungs. Lipid pneumonia.
Risk is small but it's there so I wouldn't be putting any product containing petroleum up on my nostrils to risk inhaling it.

Lanolin/Lansinoh is much safer...won't even hurt babies who get some of it off their mom's nipples...

So the A & D ointment maybe for one night's use in a pinch until I could get something safer but I wouldn't make a habit of it because it is petroleum based.
