CPAP Compliance - 4 hours?

Post by SleepyPL » Sat Aug 17, 2019 7:21 pm

New to CPAP. Do you have to use your CPAP 4 consecutive hours each night to meet compliance? I often have to get up in the night because of illness, bathroom breaks or insomnia and 4 consecutive hours is a challenge.

It's at least 4 hours out of a 24 hour period.
The hours don't have to be consecutive.
They just need to add up to at least 4 hours within a 24 hour period.

Yep to what Pugsy said!

When I was in the compliance period, if I didn't get 4 hours while sleeping, I'd take my machine to the living room & sit and watch TV or check email or whatever. It didn't happen very often, but I was aware of the need for "them" to see my usage at a minimum of 4 hours. For me, the 24 hour period was noon to noon, and I really had no problem with compliance in order to keep the machine.

As Pugsy said, you don't need to be sleeping and it doesn't have to be overnight, just have to use it.

Probably worth noting, not only does this help achieving compliance hours but it also helps many who can't tolerate CPAP therapy adjust to it.
