Leaving a heated tube out in the sun to dry after cleaning?
Leaving a heated tube out in the sun to dry after cleaning?
Whenever I clean my heated tube, I soak/wash it in the morning, then I hang it up to dry till I go to bed. 12 hours later, and the hose is always still wet on the inside. I usually have to plug it in and let the air run till it blows the water droplets out.
I live in Hawaii where it's sunny most of the time, so could I hang it outside to dry in the sun for a few hours? Or would the intense sunlight damage the tubing material?

Direct sunlight and heat sources can do damage.

Why are you even washing it? Most of us don't bother at all, or only at loooong intervals - it's a closed system after all and whatever goes through the filter, machine and hose goes straight out and doesn't come back... But if you insist, using the machine at bedtime x 10 mins should dry it out anyhow.
Re: Leaving a heated tube out in the sun to dry after cleaning?
I honestly just love the smell of clean. I use Dawn dish soap and I absolutely love that smell. I get the best sleep on the nights after I clean my things. I don't do it that often; usually once a month.Julie wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 7:07 pmWhy are you even washing it? Re: Leaving a heated tube out in the sun to dry after cleaning?
If you feel you MUST "clean" your hose, do it in the evening before bedtime and then the residual moisture will be added back to your humidified air. Problem solved!!!SgtSkippy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 6:39 pmWhenever I clean my heated tube, I soak/wash it in the morning, then I hang it up to dry till I go to bed. 12 hours later, and the hose is always still wet on the inside. The idea of "drying" something that you're going to be putting moisture back into right away is ridiculous.
In over 14 years, I've never actually "cleaned" any of my hoses.......and I use them for years and years. Every few years I fill them with warm water to check for leaks.......and if there are none, I put them back on my machine. I've never had any that leaked and my original hose is on one of my backup machines. My second hose has been on my primary machine for several years now. I also use cool, "passover" humidity and my hose is (for all intents and purposes) dry when I turn off my machine in the morning.

I wouldn’t leave anything to dry in the sun. The UV rays will eventually degrade everything.

What I do to dry the hose is use the Mask Fit/Mask Adjustment option in the machine. It will blow air at a high pressure and won't turn off by itself. Then, I shake the hose while pointing it down to remove excess water that might make noises or hit me in the face at night.

And only clean as often as ABSOLUTELY needed.
(For me, that is practically never)

I had a colleague who was OCD--a clean freak.
Folks in the office would do little things, just to freak him out.
I am ashamed that I participated.
In retrospect. (My rear-view mirror is clearer than the windshield)

Was he also mean and OCD?chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 9:21 pmI had a colleague who was OCD--a clean freak.

If he were very kind and OCD would it have been as entertaining?
I wonder if kindness training would be useful to clean freaks? Like a therapy to interact with the world to lessen the severity of OCD symptoms as presumably they'd have fewer occurences?
I am in a similar quandary loving a chain smoker while being a hater of smoking.
I then hate the disgusting smell of my tolerance on my clothes and in my hair.
Like the scent of forgiveness a crushed violet leaves on your shoe ~~~
It is easier to hate a smoker who is unkind.

Be careful.
People have died from much less:
In Medway, Mass., an epitaph read:

Re: Leaving a heated tube out in the sun to dry after cleaning?
I'd be hesitant to hang it in the sun -- UV rays from sunlight loves to degrade most any plastic material. Now, it won't happen fast and it will be gradual. And given the replacement cost of hoses, it's certainly not a tragedy if it degrades and splits. But still, sunlight is generally not a good idea for plastics, unless they are intentionally made with UV resistance.SgtSkippy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 6:39 pmWhenever I clean my heated tube, I soak/wash it in the morning, then I hang it up to dry till I go to bed. 12 hours later, and the hose is always still wet on the inside. What's getting into your hose that prompts you to wash it? I never wash mine -- only thing in it is the forced air from the PAP machine and you inhale that. Your exhaled breath likely doesn't make it much further than your mask vents.
There's nothing wrong with cleaning it and companies like SoClean are hoping they can convince you to spend $$$ to buy their (wholly unnecessary) cleaning machine. But If you'd rather not go to the trouble, you will be just fine not cleaning it unless you need to**.
**presumes you don't get some "bad chili" and puke down your hose or something else that demands a cleaning.
Cheers!

Musta been a southerner who was visiting up north. You know how we are, temp drops below 40 and we're all shivering....jnk... wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 6:10 amBe careful.

Of course, those northerners, start dropping like flies when it gets over 80.
