New user. Numbers are going down enough
New user. Numbers are going down enough
Hi
I’ve known I’ve had apnea just because of my symptoms. Finally got. C pap this weekend. The respiratory therapist said my ahi was 88! And my ox level was dipping in the 59. Said she has never seen such high numbers. Of course I’m freaked out. Anyway she tells me with the cpap my numbers will be 0-5. First morning only down to 26. Second morning 40! She checked all the reading and the leakage is good and I’m doing things right. I’m scared to death I’m going to die in my sleep. I want to be at 0-5 ASAP. I have a deviated septum and I’m a mouth breather. I ordered nasal strips to help open up my nostril. I cannot have surgery at this point and possibly never. Help pleaseshe said give it a week

Welcome to the forum.
Exactly which brand and model machine are you using?
Which mask?
Settings on the machine?

Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
Relax - half of us here were told 'they have never seen such high numbers' and we're all still here to tell the stories (a good amt of which had numbers over a hundred... I think they think patients will think it's somehow cool to be able to tell those stories, and don't consider that they're scaring them instead... stupid, and not unusually high.
Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
Devilbiss. Mask is working fine the therapist said from my reports Cai is1.75 wtevee that is. Resmed is the mask. Has anyone else had this happen. I mean 35 is better than 88 but wth
Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
The report says
Operating mode auto adjust ramp pressure 4 cm
Upper limit 20 cm h2 o ramp time 20 minutes
Lower limit 4 cm h20 smart flex 2
Hypoxia Index 17 per hour
Central apnea 1 per hour
Obstructive apnea 12 per hour
Does that info help

Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
I am thinking that is Central apnea index
Your minimum pressure is not yet set to its optimal setting. While the machine will try to auto adjust from that 4 cm up to where it needs to be to prevent the obstructive apneas from happening...it can't do it in the blink of an eye. It's taking too long for the machine to respond and OAs are happening in the mean time.
You need more minimum pressure....give the machine a better head start so it can get to where it needs to go to so the airway doesn't collapse. Need to prevent the collapse better in the first place instead of trying to fix things after the fact.
How much more minimum we don't know without seeing some software reports to see where it is going and when and how long, etc.
Just guessing based on the 12 AHI that is obstructive...probably at least 8 minimum and maybe even more.

What your saying. The therapist is telling me to wait a week

I wouldn't wait if it were me but the choice is yours.

Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
If it’s set on 4 now how far should I bump it? What am I bumping just to be sure lol
Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
Try it at 6 or 7 for a couple of nights and see how it goes - leave the high setting high.
Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
I’m sorry to seem stupid but what exactly am I adjusted so I don’t adjust the wrong thing
Re: New user. Numbers are going down enough
No...nothing to do with the ramp settings.
The 4 cm minimum pressure setting...that's too low...try 6 minimum.
You can leave everything else the same.
I am not familiar with the screens or choices on the Devilbiss machines....go here and request the clinical manual
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
For your machine and I believe that is should explain things more clearly for you.
