Three more things I'd like to see.

1) A standard fitting for a heated hose. For the most part, any non-heated hose can be used on any xPAP machine with no special adapter. I'd like to see the same for the heated hoses. Of course, the manufacturers will resist as they don't want you to buy another brand of heated hose.
2) An accommodation for a high tech filter. While most patients don't need this, those who live in especially polluted places, or those with allergies or advanced respiratory disease could benefit.
3) In addition to being able to use any electricity from 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60 hz, the machines should also be compatible with the 115 volt/400 hz electricity :D that one might find on an aircraft. While some manufacturers state that this is OK (if you contact them), it should be clearly stated on the label.

I am very Interested in the History Of XPAP Devices Myself, too!!
I am glad to Meet up with You, D. H., right here on the Forum!! Have heard Great things about You, that You like talking about Old XPAP Machines From the Other. Hope to hear from You. :D

I used to have an Everest-3 CPAP. That machine had had a built-in battery backup.

However, that company went out of business in 2011 due to a factory fire. The machine was light weight and somewhat smaller than the DreamStation Auto that I have now. However, it was not available as an automatic, no version supported a heated hose, and no data capability (except hours used), was available. Also, the unit was just too "delicate."

Just thought I would help you two get started.

My machine wish list reflects the limited real estate space on many bedside tables. For that reason alone, I would pay up for a model that contained a small digital alarm clock and at least one USB charge port. Furthermore, rather than the curved top surface seen on the ResMed S10 models, I would welcome a flat top surface that would allow a cell phone or Kindle to be parked overnight.

I dream of a unit that was designed to go into the bush for extended periods of time. Camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, etc. Small very electrically efficient lightweight unit with possibly a solar generator that will run it indefinitely. Obviously some lightweight batteries. And possibly waterproof because an accident in the back country would not be good. If not, waterproof storage is a must. This winter when I have more time I'll be looking at piecing something together. Maybe a Z2 with lifepo4 batteries and a solar panel. Might not be the ideal setup, but until someone makes something.

For goodness sake, use the cellphone or Kindle as an alarm clock and don't complicate the CPAP machine.

No shortage of bad ideas in this thread.

Somebody suggested a water tank that's "impossible" to overfill. I'd at least like one where the line is brightly colored and easy to see! The one for the DreamStation is white and very hard to see.

Actually, it doesn't even take new machine. They can start making the new tanks that way NOW!

That would be a tank with no fill opening!  Jim

Maybe invent non-staining colored distilled water, and build a LED into the XPAP so it shows light thru the tank. Water in you choice of color, of course!

Yall are having way too much fun with the silly factor on this post.

As a cpap is a medical device I dont think as interesting as having a clock read out on the screen would be that it would happen. (Besides some nitwit would probably mess up the setup and it would be horribly bright with no way to dim it like the old resperonics machines with the blue lights in top)

I'm also sure that next gen cpaps are not going to come with 4x4 conversion kits or spiny wheel rims... I'm getting a strong sense of sarcasm in the air....

Instead of the cloth carry bag, how about shipping it in a Hummer, with the title in the glove box. Jim

Even if true, that is never a valid reason, in principle or in practice, to limit others' easy access either to empowerment or to information.

I kind of noticed that, too.

After observing all of the subsequent models (and their problems) from all of the major manufacturers since I started therapy in 2005, I firmly believe that my machines were the pinnacle (and simplicity) of design. Yeah, the newer ones have some more features and reporting details, but they have also had their share of problems. External power supply failures, error messages which require servicing, noise issues, etc., etc.
I remember some of these same types of threads years ago and some of the ideas/suggestions back then were incorporated into the forthcoming machines.......but, not without problems. And, there has always been the ongoing software updates to keep up with the additional reporting features.

"Tanks for the memories"........ ("Goofproof" knows what I'm talking about.)
