Suplimental oxygen question
Suplimental oxygen question
I need to use suplimental oxygen with my cpap. Acording to the
directions I am suposed to turn the cpap on before I turn the oxygen
concentrator on. I heard there is a valve I could buy to just turn
the oxygen off at the bleed in adapter but Cpap.com doesn't have
one any idea who might have such a thing.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
Because cpap.com doesn't sell oxygen equipment, concentrators, tubing, etc. Try someone who does.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
I think you need to be checking with whomever is supplying your oxygen and see if they know of an adapter that has an on/off valve.....I couldn't find one.
Admittedly I just did a quick 10 minute search but it's not something that is apparently common or maybe it is called something entirely different than what I was searching for.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
You can google an for "CPAP Oxygen Port."

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
That has no ability to shut the O2 off or turn it back on.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
You might be able to, with help but, that won't make it a valve. I have and use a port in mine that has a ball check valve built into it that vents the O2 into the room when the XPAP isn't running, when the XPAP is on it closes off the vent port and lets the XPAP pressure in. I works like the one pictured in your post, except it's not Dumb.
I don't know where you can buy one , mine came from Lincare 12 years ago, the no longer supply one like it. No doubt the company was put out of business. when the CHEAP ones you pictured came on the market. The new ones cost less that $ .15 to make and sell for $ 5 to $ 20, I hope the markup is large enough. I'd hate to see them all out of business too.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
I wonder why they think it is necessary to turn the oxygen on after the CPAP? Neither my wife's sleep doctor or our DME said it was needed. For years I have turned her concentrator on when I go to bed ( a couple of hours before her) because she had a habit of forgetting to do it. The oxygen enters at the base of her hose and if the CPAP is off exits the mask. I don't see the problem with that. I think some oxygen exits the mask on exhale in normal operation anyway.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
The problem is O2 is a oxidizer, it supports combustion, the bearings are lubed, lube + O2, are a fire hazzard, when the XPAP is running the O2 is forced away from the XPAP, when the XPAP is off the O2 can get into the XPAP! My thoughts, unlikely, but again I didn't put the "Warning Signs" on my bedroom windows "Oxygen in Use"! I'm not a Lawyer, I take chances based of odd's not $$$.ClayL wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:02 amI wonder why they think it is necessary to turn the oxygen on after the CPAP? With a valve like mine it protects the machine, me too, if the machine shuts off and I don't awaken, the O2 still can come down the hose to the mask, little good but every bit helps! Jim

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
It also backs up and fills the cpap with pure oxygen, which, in the (hopefully unlikely) event that there's a spark, will burn vigorously.ClayL wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:02 amI wonder why they think it is necessary to turn the oxygen on after the CPAP? Re: Suplimental oxygen question
I have only been using supplemental oxygen since 2010. Have only used a simple adapter like the one pictured until I got my Aircurve ASV with heated hose and oxygen port.
I have always turned on my O2 before I get into bed, usually just a few minutes never more than an hour before I mask up.
Maybe tonight will be the night I go up in a ball of flames.

Re: Suplimental oxygen question
What exactly are you trying to do? Just be able to turn on oxygen concentrator first without CPAP turned on?
First question is what happens when you turn it on with valve closed? Does the oxygen concentrator have a automatic pressure release valve or would you need something like this that they sell for fish tanks https://www.kensfish.com/cgi-kensfish/s ... fd224662db . You could have one valve open to the room when you turn on concentrator then close it when you open the valve going to CPAP.
That site has a ton of different types of valves if it helps you find what you need https://www.kensfish.com/cgi-kensfish/s ... e084af26f6
