Woke up more tired after day1, what to adjust? Resmed airsense10
Woke up more tired after day1, what to adjust? Resmed airsense10
I only had it for 3 hrs before i got up. a lot of the time was also spent trying to sleep and get used to it. is this normal?
https://imgur.com/a/ruxCUcq
i used amara full face mask. i figure i need it tighter because i couldnt sleep on my sides without massive leaks near my mouth. also, i prefer mouth breathing so when i opened my mouth i felt a ton of air entering, which made me go back to nose breathing. not sure if this is good/normal. i used the Medium full face mask from phillips respironics amara since the size guide suggested M, but do ppl typically size up?
furthermore, multiple times i woke up with a very dry mouth while having the mask still on. pretty uncomfortable.
the apap was on auto, so i presume i dont need to adjust pressure levels (saw something lkike 4:20). furthermore, humidity was at 4/8, was curious if higher is better.
are there anything i can change?
final statS: 22L/min air leak, 13 ahi

What caused you to wake up?
How come the full face mask? Chronic nasal congestion??? forcing mouth breathing?
There are better full face masks that are easier to get and keep a seal than the Amara View...and more comfortable to boot.
The DreamWear Full face mask for one or the ResMed F30.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... k-headgear
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-dre ... k-headgear
Both have done away with the hard plastic shell of the View for cushion holding
Everyone will pretty much feel worse with only 3 hours of sleep or 3 hours of cpap treated sleep followed by whatever untreated sleep.

woke up because i was dry mouth and tired of everything lol, figured i just had to set up better.
full face because chronic nasal congestion. im a mouth breather half the day and thru the nose its shallow breathing due to obstruction slowing down breathing rates/volume
the amara came with my setup, wasnt aware there were beter ones. may try those out. does my condition nullify nasal pillows/masks?

If you can't move enough air through your nose so that you don't have to supplement with air from the mouth causing you to mouth breathe then yes...you are pretty much stuck with a full face mask.
The problem with mouth breathing and not having the mouth included in the circuit is with a nasal interface mask the air is likely to just go up the nose and out your mouth and then you can't maintain enough pressure in the airway to hold it open and prevent the apneas..
A little mouth breathing probably isn't the end of the world but a lot of mouth breathing will really compromise your therapy effectiveness and if you want to go through all this stuff you want optimal effectiveness if at all possible.
Now if you had told me that you normally breathe through your nose during the day and the night time stuff is habit or random...different story but if you just have to mouth breathe even during the day because you can't move enough air through your nose.....that pretty much seals your fate.
Now if you were to fix whatever problem you are having with the congestion then we could have a different discussion.
I assume you have had the nose situation evaluated by an ENT?????

you are in capable hands with pugsy. i have nothing to add to her sound advice.
while you are working to get rid of the root cause of your dry mouth, may i make a suggestion?
try xylimelts. they actually promote saliva while you sleep. it's a small lozenge with a slight tacky surface on one side. you place it between teeth and cheek with the tacky side to your tooth. stays in all night and helps alleviate the dry mouth.
should be found in your grocery store or drugstore in the oral care section.
good luck!

i thought the nose thing was kinda normal because of nasal cycles but i am starting to think mine is more severe than the rest of ppls. will go to the ENT when i get insurance again in dec/jan.Pugsy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 3:57 pmIf you can't move enough air through your nose so that you don't have to supplement with air from the mouth causing you to mouth breathe then yes...you are pretty much stuck with a full face mask.

i noticed in full face mask sometimes my habits open my mouth and i feel like im suffocating from a sudden surge of air. first time doing this so i was surprised and avoided it after as much as possible. is there a way to prevent this? i cant understand how to mouth breathe slightly if its going to jam air down my mouth.
lastly, is there a way to power off the resmed airsense10 during teh day? i notice the power adapter is still greenlighted and pretty warm to touch, feels like a waste. currently i just unplug it from the device, but was hoping an offswitch somewhere i didnt see would work
are nasal pillows ideal? perhaps ill try one on amz if it isnt very expensive to see if it works for me (any suggestions on which ones?)

The amount of power the unit draws is very minimal. If you would rather pull the plug every day...go for it.

Don't presume what you don't know...If your machine is set at 4/20, no one did anything to it. That's the way it comes from ResMed. Even though it's been a short time, I would increase your minimum pressure to 6 and see if the AHI comes down. Humidity is a comfort issue... 4 is moderate...if you think you need more humidity because of the dry mouth, increase it.kdt15 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 9:53 amI only had it for 3 hrs before i got up. a lot of the time was also spent trying to sleep and get used to it. is this normal?

That's a recipe, (and setting) for failure.

Yes, it is normal.
For me, finding the right mask transformed my treatment. It eliminated lots of awakenings and solved my super dry mouth. I have tried at least six full face mask models (and then a few sizes within each model). Most DMEs will offer a 30 day swap option on masks -- take advantage of that. The AmaraView was a great mask for reading but it was super painful for my nose. The Quattro Air was great but leaked (super dry mouth). In the end, for me, AirTouch F20 sized large with a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap was the ticket. There are valid reasons not to like that mask -- but I love that mask. It is the right mask for me -- you just need to find the right mask for you!
