The connection between depression and poor sleep has been known for at least a century. However, the classical understanding was that depression was interfering with sleep.
It's becoming clear that, while this might sometimes be the case, the opposite is frequently the case. That is, poor sleep (due to Sleep Apnea or for other reasons) can cause or exacerbate depression.
Furthermore, the patients in this study mostly did not fit the Sleep Apnea profile, due to the initial screening for this study.

Obstructive sleep apnea may be one reason depression treatment doesn't work
Re: Obstructive sleep apnea may be one reason depression treatment doesn't work
well ... Couldn't it be that the treatment of MDD (major depressive disorder) may affects sleep quality ?
Out of 125 patients with MDD, 44% have treatment-resistant depression. 14% have OSA and 3% have severe sleep problems.
What I can experience is that VPAP interferes with my MDD treatment. It is and remains a nightmare to find a compromise on how to use them.
And if XPAP can induce CA it may well call up the AG (Aerophagia Good) and let the Monster out.
