Primitive camping, pilot battery w/solar panel

Post by Frankenfurn » Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:16 am

Hi all, I'm hoping someone would not mind checking my tentative setup for camping on some cayes in Belize. I will use a Z2 travel machine running from a Medstrom pilot 12 lite and may need to use it about 2 weeks. I wish to charge it using a 60W folding solar panel with a cigarette lighter adapter and the car charging cable for the pilot. I think the adapter has the right connection for the panel, but I have a lot of connectors from my home backup system. I think the panel controller only works on the usb socket, so I do not know if the electronics in the battery will be safe enough. I picked the panel based on folded size and weight since I can't use a rolling bag well in the sand. If someone has a suggestion for a more reliable panel with similar specs please let me know.
Thanks

You might need a stronger solar panel, of course that depends on the light in the cave. Jim

The Medistrom panel is 50W so I thought 60 might be enough, the 100W are heavier. I am wary of the Medistrom panel since I cannot find reviews on it and not many places sell it. Not many caves on the cayes we will be on or the boats in the preserve.
