I’m A CPAP Dropout: Why Many Lose Sleep Over Apnea Treatment

Post by D.H. » Wed Jul 17, 2019 9:10 am

The patient named at the beginning of this article was given a full face mask in 2004 (calculated based on story date). She was unable to use her CPAP. In 2019, she saw a sleep specialist again who this time tried a nasal mask.

This appears to work for her.

The moral of the story is that you need to find the right mask, perhaps even more than you need to find right machine! The machine is important, but the mask is your direct point of contact!

Also, I don't recommend that most patient start with a full face mask. Unless there's a true obstruction (not just congestion), try a nasal mask first!

The article doesn't say. Of course, assuming the machine is in good working order it can do what it always did. The machine that I got in 1999 treated the condition well at the time. However, I want to use a more modern machine now.

If it's in working order, it will do what it always did! The same goes for an abacus, a side rule, or a trypewriter!

Do change the filters and look for bugs, also as D.H. says Frayed power cords. I like your spelling for trypewriter, I think I'm still using that model. Jim
