After 3 weeks of really trying I got a different mask today. It fastens more securely to my head so I hope it will stay in place unlike the previous one. And I hope it allows me to sleep on my side. It has to work for at least 6 months before insurance will pay for another unless I want to pay out of pocket. The woman at the DME was surprised the sleep clinic didn't put a mask and machine on me during the sleep study. I've talked to several others who did have a mask put on them during their study but they went to different places than where I went. Hmmm.
Anyhoo, tonight's a new beginning! Bye-bye Dreamwear nasal and hello Dreamwisp nasal. I'll still be rocking that sexy chin mask though.

Re: New mask today
Used to be getting titrated in the lab was the usual way to determine pressure needs. Over time auto adjusting machines have become an acceptable means of determining pressure needs. It varies among insurers. I've seen some on here say their insurer only approves APAP for titration, only approving in-lab titrations if there are special considerations. You could check with your insurer to see if doing it at home is their requirement, or if it was the doctor's preference. Unless something unusual pops up, you are probably just as well off. Good luck with the new mask.

Re: New mask today
Oh. My. Gosh!
I cannot believe what a difference the new mask makes. I slept so much better last night and the mask stayed in place better.
I hate I didn't ask for a new mask sooner and that I went through nearly three weeks of poor sleep with the old one.

That's wonderful that you love your new mask. It looks kind of intense with 2 straps instead of one and a piece going over your nose, but it sounds like it's a great match for you. I'm using the DreamWear with "pillows" (hah!) and I have a lot of trouble with leaking. I'm relatively new to CPAP and my husband still laughs at me every night when I put the chin strap on.
For my sleep study they did not use a machine or mask either. I ended up with an auto CPAP. I had to go back a couple months later because the CPAP caused Treatment Related Complex Apnea. My AHI went from 18 during the study to an average of about 55 and I was getting a ton of centrals. The second time they did use a mask and machine.
Enjoy your new nights of good sleep!
