What do you use for colds, allergies?

Post by tfletch159 » Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:30 am

Checking to see what people here use that works for them when they have colds or bad allergies (I.e. - nasal congestion). Trying to find something that will work for me to keep passages clear.

I have been stopping cpap for the nights when I'm sick or allergies are bad but I know that isn't good. Thanks for the help!

flonase. over the counter. you should be able to find it in the grocery store or drug store of your choice.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I haven't missed a single night with cpap since I started in 2009.

Not even having a tube up my nose in the hospital kept me from using cpap.

When I've got a cold or other congestion, I do what's necessary to breathe through my nose, various things including using a neti pot, sudafed (the real have to sign for it stuff), Afrin (only at night so I don't become dependent/addicted) and even adding water to the cpap humidifier.

Once I get some air going through my stuffed up nose, the cpap helps open it up more, and I breathe better at night than during the day.

Thanks, I've got the flonase and will keep using that and will also stock up on Sudafed (the strong stuff :). I do notice that the humidifier seems to help clear things out a bit after some time.

Palerider - how is the bleep mask working for you?

I have a p10 nasal pillow that was working for me for a short time but now I'm getting too many leaks :( after a lot of masks, I really like the p10 but need to find a way to stop the leaks.

The bleep is great for avoiding leaks.. not so great for when you've got a runny nose.

That's my experience. Once the air is moving, I have no issues breathing until I take the mask off.
Having optimal pressure, temperature and humidity settings with these modern machines is pretty amazing.

I have been taping my mouth shut because i loose air that way too, but still get leaks with taping so thinking it's the mask, and or me moving around at night.

CPAP therapy has greatly reduced my allergies, and, also reduced the number of 'colds' I get each year.

I believe that the machine's basic filtering provides the greater benefit in the spring.
In the cold, dry Dallas fall and winter months, controlled humidity from the machine keeps my throat warm and free from opportunistic infections.

For a very few days at the peak of allergy season, I rely on Flonase. It's a miracle drug.
