Is my Dreamstation functioning properly?
Is my Dreamstation functioning properly?
I have deviated septum so I mouth breathe. I just recently got a apap with a pressure of 9. The thing is that when I breathe throw my mouth the breathe feels extremely abrupt. Like I am breathing, I feel the pressure assist me and then it cuts short before I complete my relaxed breath. Am I just breathing shallowly or is this the normal thing for a Dreamstation? Thanks in advance

Re: Is my Dreamstation functioning properly?
Welcome to the forum?
Are you using the Flex exhale relief at all? If you are...at what setting?
If you aren't...try using it and try all the settings....Sounds like you are having a bit of an issue with the timing of the transition from inhale to exhale and back to inhale again. The current timing doesn't sync up well with your own respiration patter.
Flex exhale relief changes the timing of the change just a little...so try all settings and see if one of them fits your own breathing pattern the best and use it....no matter what the setting.
The machine is functioning properly but unfortunately the timing of how it functions doesn't match up with your own breathing pattern so great..... fairly common complaint with any cpap machine.
Doesn't feel "natural" or we either feel like it wants to rush our breathing or maybe we feel like it is dragging its butt a bit.
Everyone is different with their own breathing pattern...which is why I suggest trying all settings and just experimenting while awake to find one that more closely matches your own breathing pattern....and it will feel more natural in terms of the timing.

I also found this very annoying. I turned off the feature completely, which did the trick for me.
