5/23 - Referred to sleep specialist
5/29 - Sleep Study Ordered
6/5 - Sleep Study
6/13 - Received CPAP

Really lucky my sleep doctor is part of a good medical system.

Frequently, the wait is long enough to be a medical disaster.
I have long suspected the idea is to stretch it out until the patient (victim)
is desperate enough to accept whatever ancient piece of crap is in the DME's storeroom.

Seeing the respiratory therapist today! Hopefully this means I'll be bringing a machine home today?

That’s why I went through Lofta - I didn’t want to wait two months just for a consultation. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Turned out my insurance wouldn’t have covered my type of apnea anyway so I would’ve just waited for nothing. Lol

Yes! it will take getting use to, but even on night one I had a better sleep! AHI 4.1 for the night rather than 90. Lots of mask adjusting during the night but I'll take the trade off. Thank you for asking!

If you have the prescription, don't even mess with the DME or the doctors. I had a home sleep study by my dentist 2 years ago which I had a copy. I tried to get my doctor to write me a prescription for a cpap and of course, she wanted me to pay $3000 for a lab sleep study. Screw that!! I paid $99 dollars to an online service and had a prescription in my hande in 20 minutes. Went to cpap.com and had the machine the very next day. I found more information on this forum that I ever got from my dentist, ENT, or Dr. I have been using the machine for 5 days now and have never felt better. Medicine is totally profit oriented, and the well being of the patient is secondary!

so much this. a lot of people don't realize that a DENTIST can write the prescription.

it's just another thing i learned via this forum, oh so long ago.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Please elaborate on this. I've not seen reference to this online service in my year of being here.

Too late for me, but would help MANY!

First off, I already had done a sleep study test at home from my dentist. He fitted me with an oral device that seemed to help at first. Two years later, I had to go to an ENT for another reason. He suggested that I ditch the oral device for a cpap. I asked my GP for a prescription but she would not do it without doing a lab sleep test. Went to healthsqyre.com, paid $99 dollars, filled out an online questionaire and recieved a prescription in about 20 minutes.

Thanks Static1. I did pick up on the home sleep study. What was the Type of your home study?

This is a great way for folks to save some serious money.

I'm not sure about the kind of home test, it was a device that I wore on my head and it had a nasal cannula. I had to sleep with it (wasn't easy) and took it back to the dentist the next day. The test and oral device cost me $3000. My insurance did pay some of it but I paid most. That is why I didn't want to go through a sleep lab test. I am a working stiff so 3 grand comes out of my retirement savings!

Anything more than a week and they would recognize my voice when I called several times a day. They would and should be as annoyed as I would be.
I have had 2 in lab Sleep studies and both times I had my machine within a week of the study. My original AHI was only 83.
