Nasal Pillows and HME?

Post by viviantheodosia » Wed Jun 19, 2019 9:12 am

HI all,

I am having a problem with the wind on my nose waking me up to itch my nose during the night while using a nasal cushion mask (currently a airfit N20). I could never sleep with a fan because the breeze or under the covers as just my own breath annoyed me. So I would like to switch to a nasal pillow. I'm using the z2 auto travel cpap machine and need the HME for humidity. I have not found a nasal pillow style mask with a short hose so that the hme is close enough to my face to be useful (the HME needs to be right there to capture the out breath moisture. Suggestions?

The Resmed P10 has the same short hose as the n20

Trim your nose hair.

The hose for the n20 is also too long.

It is the exterior of the nose that itches.

No, it's not. It's your nose hair being blown around, and our animal brain thinks *BUG! SCRATCH*

Many people have said the same thing as you, and then found relief with a trim.

Try this, it might work:

Scratch your nose really, really well before you put on your mask. Maybe scrub it with a dry scrubby wash cloth. Then see if you have the problem. Sometimes we can "attenuate" (decrease) the sensation by overwhelming the sensory nerves. This is a cheap, easy solution if it works. Worth a try.

I'll try it as I don't have any better ideas.
