First off hello all. New board member long time CPAP user and I have a question regarding resumed S9 settings.
I have been wearing CPAP for 12+ years and am a religious user of my CPAP. Honestly I haven’t ever gone a night without wearing it and it’s the first thing I pack and carry on when I travel.
I have tried searching the forums and manuals ( both user and clinician) and can’t seem to find how to change a setting.
My machine has been turning OFF while I’ve been wearing it resulting in my spontaneously being jolted awake gasping for air and basically “freaking out” as I can’t breathe. Scaring the hell out of my wife in the process.
Is the a way to disable the “auto OFF” feature on the S9? I’m using nasal pillows at a 16.2 pressure setting and I may have started mouth breathing recently and as a result the machine shuts off - creating all the havoc. I may have to go to a full mask (like my brother) but I need to turn off the auto off feature on my CPAP. I have searched the manuals and even the clinician menus but can’t find anything to change it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am not familiar with that model’s operation, but on the Autosense 10, the SmartStart feature covers both auto on and auto off. Can’t have one enabled without the other,

The Auto on/off is documented in the clinician menu as SmartStart.
You can't decouple auto on and auto off. Either both are on, or both are off.

Thank you for the timely responses. Made the change and we’ll see how it works out tonight. I’ll pull the card tomorrow and check the data vs. sleepyhead.
On a related note how common is it for someone to switch to or start mouth breathing after wearing a nasal mask trouble free for 12 years? Psychologically, full face masks freak me out and I don’t want to switch to one so I’d like to avoid it if I can but like I said I’m a religious wearer and I have not missed a night since I got my 1st machine 12+ years ago. If I HAVE to I’ll make the switch because I can’t go on snarfling and gasping and scaring my wife.
Do they make this switch after a sleep study? I’ve never even gone back to the Dr. That did my initial study years ago. I never had a problem getting used to CPAP use and look forward to wearing it. Kind of at a loss at to what to do here. I guess we’ll see how I do tonight....
Thanks again for the help.

To get into the settings menu, press and hold the double check mark and the dial button together for 5 seconds. Once you are in the settings area find "smartstart" and turn it off.

I wonder if the two things you've mentioned - mouth breathing and your machine turning itself off are related? May be there is enough air coming from your mouth to make the machine think that the mask has been removed.Zoomer302 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 7:28 pmThank you for the timely responses. Are you practicing placing the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth? Many have found this helpful to break a habit of mouth breathing.
