Does anyone know if the heated hose helps with reducing nasal congestion?

Every person is different...If you go to the pharmacy you will see that they sell warm air humidifiers and cool air humidifiers. Unless you try you will not know which (if any) work best for you. Same with CPAP humidity.

That's what I thought I might try asking my VA if they can ship me a tube.. or maybe if its not worth the hassle of dealing w/ them just purchase it from CPAP.com

The heated hose reduces condensation in the hose. It doesn't really have anything to do with nasal congestion, unless all your moisture is getting stuck in the hose and isn't making it to your nose.

Hi Diotima,

I suffered from severe nasal congestion all my life. Whenever I laid down my nose would immediately block.

But after getting a CPAP machine, I find (to my amazement and delight) that I can breathe through my nose at night.
The magic works whether I use a full face mask, or a nasal mask.

I don't know if it's the positive pressure, or the warm air, or the increased humidity.
(I have a heated hose and a humidifier) but it's wonderful!

good luck ........... Zim

I'm suspicious my mask might be wrong size... I used a included sizing chart with one of my masks and it looks like I'm a small and not a medium. Could this cause my nose to be harder to breath through?

I have used a heated humidifier and heated hose since day one.
A doctor once suggested I try a non heated hose. I think that lasted less than an hour.
I can't tell you what difference it makes for me, let alone what it might do for you. But it may be worth a try.
My Medicare advantage insurance pays for mine, that suggests VA may also pay for yours if you ask.

Diotima,

I would thing that a larger mask might cause leakage, but shouldn't be any harder to breathe through...

I have found that a missized mask can lead towards difficulty breathing.
