Average Age of Apnea Patients?
Average Age of Apnea Patients?
Ok, Is there really a link to age and apnea? I think my son has it, but the doc doesn't think so..... says he's just a teenager. He also says most apnea patients are over 40 years old..... Is this really true? So, let's take a poll and see as for our forum, what is the average age of apnea patients?

I am 34 but think I have had for many years. In high school was in fairly good shape, worked out and all that for football and was restricted from playing because of high b.p. Also I can't remember if any supporting data but in JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services) a paramedic that has sleep apnea wrote an article about his condition and the process of getting treatment. In the article he mention a possible link between sleep apnea and ADHD. Do not know if that is a problem but my son has it and seems plausable.

My son is 32, has had ADHD since birth (was crawling-not creeping-at FOUR months of age) He was recently diagnosed with OSA. I've also read of correlations between ADHD and OSA. I am also ADD, but never officially diagnosed. But I've got all the symptoms, going back to early childhood. Girls don't show the really overt symptoms that boys do, but to this day I still can't sit still for very long and have to have something to do with my hands. I can read a book and suddenly lose my train of thought and have to start the page over or sometimes even further back. I am constantly interrupting people when they talk, and my own conversations can be very fragmented and wander off topic. Basically, I talk without thinking, because my mind is going so fast it is going on to something else while I'm talking about another thing.
When our son was about 8 he was constantly talking during a car trip (not an unusal occurence for him). We bet him he couldn't stop talking for 10 minutes. He lasted 2 minutes.

Hi GOOfy217,
This is kind of interesting! Your motive is to check on the younger crowd but what about us oldsters? I'm over 50 so it would have been nice to see the age catagories broken right up to 120 ( talk about Great Expectations!).
What I am getting at is the potential life expectancy for xPAP users. Also, the the baby boomers are making the scene in this regard so it would be neat to see statistics for the recent past and then compare it as time marches on.
Does anyone have age vs Xpap use or know where this can be had?
Great survey idea, just wish we had a bigger sample!

I answered 30-40, (I'm 34) but I estimate that I've had it at least 10 years, could be more. Wonder how a persons build has to do with OSA. I have between a 17 and 18 inch neck, 6 ft @ 270. Also read that allergic Rhinitis can have an effect, as well as bronchitis. I know people with OSA who are obese and some who are in good shape. Never can tell.
