Fisher Paykel Simplus

Post by Nadeaner81 » Thu Jun 06, 2019 11:29 am

Hey, does anyone out here use the Fisher Paykel Simplus? Has anyone had success with it? Any pics?

I have been having a really hard time with my seasonal allergies and made the switch from a full face mask without the forehead support, but I get such bad irritation from the cheek straps.

Really hoping this mask will be great for me!

I have used the Simplus for a year. For the previous 8 years I used the Mirage Quattro. The Simplus is lighter weight and easier to keep a seal. If it's just cheek straps giving you a problem, go to padacheek.com and look at strap padding....they work.

The seal is good on the Simplus and the cushion is probably one of the most comfortable. No pressure/skin sores with it on my end and I have to strap it down rather tight due to the pressures. I have gotten the occasional bad cushion where it makes a whistling noise near the exhalation ports.

I use the Philips Respironics System One REMstar Pro C-Flex + - I assume it's a CPAP (not Bi-Pap) machine. I also use the Simplus Full Face Mask. I always have red creases on both cheeks in the morning and on the bridge of my nose. I tried going to a minimal contact full face mask (Dream Wear Full Face mask) since I had nose surgery recently and couldn't have the Simplus pushing on my incisions. Then my AHI's went up with the new mask - from 6-7/hour to 10-11/hour. I also started getting Periodic Breathing readings of 4-5%. I don't understand what this all indicates but I will see the sleep doctor in a month. My pressure was originally set at 9 when I began CPAP therapy 10 years ago, now it's at 13.
So as far as comfort goes, no mask I've ever tried was comfortable and at this point I'm ready to give it up all together since I'm still having such high AHI's - when I was diagnosed about 10 years ago my AHI's were around 20 during the sleep study and that's when I was first prescribed CPAP. It sure hasn't done much for me and I still feel tired and just dragged out every day all day. Wish I could offer some sound advice, but I need any advice I can get also.

The Simplus is lighter/smaller than the Quattro Mirage. I couldn't get the Quattro FX to seal either. The Simplus, in my opinion, is more comfortable because the strap at the back of the neck is wider. In the first four nights I have not found it to seal better than the Mirage. I am still trying to hit the magic strap adjustment though. I am convinced an "active sleeper" needs a mask pad that goes between the face and the cushion, doesn't make any difference what mask you use. This is in reference to full face mask only. (although I haven't tried one, it may not work either) The mask pad will just be another expense to your already costly OSA.

I need to backtrack on my negative comments on the F&P Simplus. Last night I tightened up the lower straps and the strap that goes over my head. That sealed the cushion and kept the mask from sliding down my face. Oscar showed the best leak graph in over 6 months. These things change rapidly, but for last night the Simplus gave me a good night's sleep. I don't know what all the snoring is. I do think the PR DS is susceptible to some errant snoring when just the mask moves. Could even be the O2 input, maybe. My opinion. Wife never heard snoring.
