Anyone use a comfortable Full Face Mask?

Post by raisedfist » Thu May 30, 2019 7:56 am

I am having trouble finding a mask that I can use long term. The ResMed AirFit F20 hurts the bridge of my nose and also leaks. The F30 is uncomfortable to wear. The DreamWear FFM hurts the skin beneath my nostrils...and so on. The only mask that is remotely comfortable so far is the F&P Simplus but the headgear tends to hurt my neck even though it's not too small or tight.

Love the Simplus....go to padacheek.com and try strap cushions.

I think there’s a resmed one with memory foam. It has been suggested I try a FFM after a year+ on CPAP with no improvement. I am dreading this so much that I can’t even bring myself to start the process. Furthermore I can’t seem to tolerate any mask without a diffused exhaust so that limits my choices even further, although maybe that’s a good thing. I gave up finding a mask I actually like and now it’s just about finding one that I hate the least.

I found one--once; but it was discontinued.
I eventually gave up on full face masks.
I have discovered that swapping between 2 masks allowed my face to heal
enough to continue use until I could FINALLY find a winner.

Another possibilty is Amara View, I used that for over a year. Seems like despite the differences between masks, they are all uncomfortable!

Great results with a Resmed F20. Alternate between silicon and memory foam insert. Mask frame offers both options.

I use a mask that most people don't like and that is the Forma, I've been using it for 7 years with no problem. I put it on a little snug cause when you go to sleep the face muscles relax and it's just right, plus I like the under the chin part of it.

Maybe you could try a nasal mask (or nasal pillows) with a chin strap to keep your mouth closed?

I use an AirFit F20 some days and an AirTouch F20 others. I do sometimes get irritation on the bridge of my nose from the AirFit, but it's minor as long as I don't wear it every day.

The cushion does last much longer on the AirFit then the AirTouch.

Comfortable? Depends on your perspective. I use an oldie, but a goodie, the F&P 431. It's the only mask I've ever used (long term) that I can deal with.

I tried that one once and just couldn't get it to work unfortunately.

Also, hi madalot! Hope you are doing well

I understand. A lot of people can't use/don't like the 431. It just happens to be THE one that worked for me.

I'm hanging in there. Not great, but not going to complain either. I'm still alive and kicking so it's a victory, right? LOL

Love mu RespCare Hybrid FFM! Pillows and covers mouth, comes with 3 sizes of each to accommodate easy fitting and easy to breather thru nose or mouth, Ckick on it in my signature to view it on our host's website www.cpap.com.

I rotate between 3 different masks: The Amara View, Resmed F30 and Dreamwear Full.

Right now I've gone back to the View from the F30, I don't know why, just because, kinda get sick of one and go back to the other. It took me a long time to grow to like the F30, sometimes the straps bother the tops of my ears and I just mess with it, get it adjusted right and it's ok after that. The F30 really seems to punish for over-tightening the straps, it will leak more when it's too tight but leaks are practically non existent when just snug.

I'm liking the headgear of the View better, it's a little nicer but the velcro doesn't hold up. I actually rarely use the Dreamwear because of the rush of airflow noise is so loud right next to my ears but otherwise is ok. I thought the hose attach at the top of my head would be weird but turns out, not really an issue.

I did try the memory foam F20 a long time ago and thought it was cool at first but quickly grew tired of it, and have absolutely no love lost for throwing away the standard F20 that I started out with. I can't believe I wore that thing for as long as I did, about 7 or 8 months before upgrading. I'm a back and side sleeper, start out back and transfer to side around 2 or 3 am and all 3 masks work just fine for that...with the exception of the air rush noise of Dreamwear.

I don't know about any of you, but I use a permenant marker on my headgear straps to help identify current strap adjustment to aid in "Tuning" the headgear. It makes small adjustments easier and more accurate, giving you a point of referrence.
Yay :D For no more diaphragm cramps and dozing off while driving!

My "one and only" (favorite since I started therapy). I just noticed they're having a big price reduction sale. Maybe I'll have to add a few more to my stash.
