Low Pressure CPAP Machine?

Wow, there’s quite a bit going on in this thread.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, the machine I have is a Res Med Air Sense 10. I have it set to 4, their lowest setting. It’s very hard to exhale through my nose. I would love to find a machine that has an option for truly low pressure but, it is sounding like there is an industry standard and 4 is as low as it goes.

it may sound absolutely backwards to you at this point, but raising that minimum pressure will actually make it easier to breath against. so it would help to move up from a 4 to at least a 7.

Are you using a range of pressures (min and max) or a straight/single pressure of 4 cm. (CPAP mode) ?
If you're using a range of pressures and the maximum pressure is set way high, it could be that you're trying to exhale at a much higher pressure then 4 cm. In other words, it could be that your breathing efforts or events are driving up the pressure.
Understand?
Are you using software to see what your machine is doing all during the night? You would also be able to see the events and what else is going on while you're sleeping.

Since you haven't filled in your profile, we really don't know which exact model of the AirSense 10 you're using. There are a number of them.

Which mask are you using? You may need a different size mask or pillows. I don't use a nasal mask myself, so I have no experience with this. But I have seen many posts with the suggestion to go up one size in pillows for better airflow. You might give that a try.

If you post your mask, then those who do use that or similar mask may have better advice for you.

The post in question was about some wicked aerophagia I was fighting, and included quite a bit of detail about what I had tried and what was helping and what wasn't. After the post sat out there for 3-4 weeks without so much as a reply, and having worked through a majority of the issues with a move to bi-level, I deleted the thread as I didn't feel it was helpful having it hang out there. I suspect that a moderator or forum admin could probably find the post or reference to the deletion since my statement seems to be getting called into question - I believe the post was titled "Help me slay the aerophagia monster."

And yes, my participation here to date has mostly been through several posts on batteries and DC power because I have some technical expertise in that arena.

I am sorry that this happened. That subject line does sound familiar. I have never experienced it, so I usually don't answer that type of post. If it was a busy week for posts, it may have dropped to the second page too fast. I think I will try what Granny mentioned and check the second page occasionally for threads that aren't getting many answers, especially when started by unfamiliar names. Even if I don't have advice, I could bump it.

Not true. Complaints about severe aerophagia have been answered hundreds of times. Members even put together a wiki on aerophagia.

Also, frankly, if I see a wall of text that may or may not have a question buried in there somewhere, I tend to go on to the next thread, and figure I'll come back to that one when there's been a little activity and it doesn't take many minutes trying to tease out what the OP's actual issue is, and what they want help with.

The only "character flaw" I've seen so far in this thread is the missing "e" in "Autoset for Heroes" in someone's avatar.

But I won't mention it, since a spelling discussion almost always eventually leads to a locked thread, right?
