AirFit F20 mask works except for the bridge of the nose

Post by raisedfist » Tue Apr 23, 2019 7:18 am

This mask seals great except for the fact that the cushion causes pain on the bridge of the nose. Is this easily solved somehow? I like the mask otherwise as the new elbow diffuser is real quiet.

I used to wear that mask and liked it. It was making the bridge of my nose sore, too. So sore that it rubbed it raw eventually. Had I taken the advice of the Sheriff and a few others early on and used a band aid or moleskin, I probably would never have had to switch masks. One of these days, I may visit using it again.

When I used the Symplus mask, I would place a piece of moleskin on my nose every night to prevent it from getting sore. You can find moleskin at Walmart or any drug store in the foot care section. If you decide to use it all the time, you can purchase rolls of it on Amazon at a very reasonable price. I learned about the moleskin from the RT I worked with when I first started treatment. She told mer husband used it on his nose every night to prevent sores.

Thanks I ordered a moleskin role where you can just custom cut pieces out and I should be able to try it out this weekend. Will be nice to use this quiet mask again without tearing my face apart.

I see in your profile that you are showing the Simplus....I tried the F20 and went back to the Simplus. I found it to be more comfortable

I like the simplus overall but for some reason it makes my respiratory rate shoot up to 30 - 50bpm for blocks of time, maybe because of excessive mouth breathing. Or maybe it's just a glitch with my ResMed machine, since my PR machine it doesn't do that.

I to like the Simplus but not only does the respiratory rate block at 50 but also the pressure will stay at maximum for the same time ouch!!!. I have to mouth breath as my nose is obstructed .
I have recently started to use a Resmed Quatro Air and I do not have the high resp. rate or pressure. Why should this mask be better?
Im interested that you found that this problem did not occur with the PR machine as I have been trying to get transferred onto a Dreamstation

The adhesive on the moleskin is very strong. When I try removing it in the morning, it wants to remove the skin off my nose. I put a strip of cloth medical tape under the strip of moleskin (between the moleskin and my nose). This removes the ouch, after taking it off in the morning.

I'm not sure what exactly is the issue. I get odd variation when it comes to respiratory rate, tidal volume and minute ventilation - same settings, but different full face masks. It may have to do with the jaw dropping while sleeping, causing one to excessively breath through the mouth. I don't really know. No real leak issues across the board.

The Simplus is probably the most comfortable FFM I have tried. I tried using the FF masks that cradle under the nose to not obstruct your vision or have a forehead peace, but they end up hurting the skin between my upper lip and nostrils.
