<t>Hello,

I'm new to this forum-it's good to have a place to go! I glanced through previous subjects and posts but didn't see specifically what I was looking for so I hope I'm not repeating something. Please direct me in the right direction if this is already out there.

How long on average does it take to see benefits from using CPAP? I'm going on my 5th month. I recently switched to a different mask which I think is going to help a lot, but I never imagined it would take this long to (especially) feel less sleepy during the the day. I know everyone is different but what exactly does that mean? I would assume that everyone is different. But are there specific parameters? I was so looking forward to getting a CPAP machine and have been compliant with all suggestions, especially when it comes to adjusting my sleep schedule.

I have a friend who took only 2 weeks to see benefits. Is there a point I should just give up? I have no doubt about my need for one and I have talked to my dr. several times. Just feeling a little discouraged.

Thank you for any responses and also providing a place for people to talk to other people instead of the CPAP companies!
I don't know what you're using that's putting the hypertext tags in there, but it's distracting, please don't do it anymore.Cherry Ghost wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2019 11:05 am<t>Hello,
As to the time to see benefits, there is no average, it's individual, I felt a huge difference after the first night, with others it sneaks up on them over weeks time.
And there's people all in between.
If you're 5 months in, then it's more likely that your machine isn't adjusted right for your needs. Read the first post in the announcements section, and follow the instructions therein.

Re: How long does it take to see benefits?
In my experience I wouldn't even consider therapy started until you:
Find a mask that is comfortable for you
Get used to your mask
Eliminate significant leaks including mouth leaks
Eliminate significant aerophagia symptoms
Be able to sleep through the night without any of the above disturbing your sleep
Find a pressure setting that relieves significant apnea without disturbing your sleep
Once you have achieved that treatment can really start. Maybe your friend had none of the above problems and so it only took them 2 weeks to see benefits. Some people get lucky that way.

Cherry Ghost, hang in there! It’s really good that you worked on your mask issues, and who knows, that by itself may start paying off with less daytime sleepiness.
You probably know about “sleep hygiene” (easy to google it). I was pretty skeptical but in desperation gave it a try, and to my surprise it helps. I misss reading in bed, but I don’t miss blundering through my days in a gloomy fog.
And I really want to second the suggestion that you download Sleepyhead and then post a couple of screenshots, following the formatting directions on the site. The experts here can help you fine-tune your therapy, and sometimes they can spot possible causes of poor sleep.
One other thing: could you add your machine and mask to your profile? The information can be quite useful to the people advising you.
Onward!

Re: How long does it take to see benefits?
I started in October. It took me until last month to really start feeling the full benefit. Finding a decent "for me "
mask and then getting the worst of the mask leaks under control helped significantly as did getting my pressure dialed in correctly.
