AHI of 1.0 because not breathing? Central apnea?

Post by Flex » Thu Apr 11, 2019 4:22 pm

Hi all, newby here. Looks like a very supportive and great community here. Thanks in advance.

I've been using the apap beginning Jan 1st of this year. I adapted to it in 2-3 nights, my MyAir score 90-100 every night. AHI fluctuates 2.5-7.5 The auto ramp is 5 mins and set to auto pressure 10-20. When I wake, I see average of 10-11. I've also lost 35 lbs, started at 270 lbs, now 235 lbs; entirely plant and protein diet; little exercise.

For the last week, I've been feeling a little dizzy and lightheaded. My primary and cardiologist says everything looks fine (Fatal Ignorance Needs Examination). But they know every little about the crazy complications of sleep disorder. I am going to see my sleep doc tomorrow. Hopefully, I can some your advice on this before then.

I have a suspicion that I am not getting enough oxygen, and it's affecting me throughout the day. I have a headache and some upper chest sensation that borders on slight discomfort. However the MyAir app says for the last two nights, I slept for 8 hours with AHI of 1.0 for both nights. --As it is a low AHI because I'm not breathing. Is this something anyone has come across?

Just throwing some ideas out there: central apnea, bradycardia,...

If you have an AHI of 1.0 then you experienced at most 1 central apnea per hour. To calculate AHI you count the obstructive apneas, central apneas, and hypopneas. Add those up and divide by the number of hours you used the machine. If your doctors can't find a physiological explanation, it is possible that your symptoms are anxiety related.

Thanks Nick Danger.

During my overnight sleep test, my untreated AHI was 112. There were zero Central apneas without treatment; 34 Central apneas with treatment.

Now getting my first 1.0s seems unbelievably low. My daytime sleepiness disappeared instantly, but this week, I feel as if I am not sleeping at all. A 20 minutes nap mid-afternoon during lunch hour felt a little better.

welcome to the zoo! it might be helpful if you used the sleepyhead software and posted some charts here. then the experts(i am NOT one.) can offer some helpful advice.
