Chalkie....

You confused kteague when you got EPAP and IPAP numbers backwards...

EPAP is exhale pressure and always the lower of the 2 numbers
IPAP is the inhale pressure and will be the higher of the 2 numbers

And yes...PS is the difference between EPAP and IPAP

so I have cut EPAP to 16 and raised IPAP to 8
Is that backwards? I thought the inhale is supposed to be higher than the exhale? Maybe I'm misssing something.

To everyone else who are only wanting to make snarky comments about snarky comments.....knock it off.
Fair warning....get back on track please.
You know very well who you are and what you are doing and I am tired of it.

You point the finger at others in your sig - I would appreciate if you ceased your harassment of me - remember the point of this forum and refrained from contributing to my future threads. The same goes for one or two others who seem to just want to score points and be disagreeable.
When you post things that are *wrong*, then you'll get corrected.

Not only for YOUR benefit, but for the benefit of others who might be mislead by the things you post that are wrong.

That's the way this forum works, for the benefit of *all*.

That's the only thing I care about. I'm sorry that you think I've 'got it in for you', or some such bs... but that's all that idea is... bs.

I wish you the best of luck at achieving good treatment.

OK, thankyou.

Pressures are all guesswork in the absence of a titration study but I think undertreating rather than over treating at first makes sense.
Chalkie,

What effect have these changed had on your numbers ?

Thanks, everyone, who has made helpful comments, and thanks for asking, Jas.

The honest answer is that the first night I recorded AHI 3.2 (I now have Encore Basic working nicely) but the leak rate was so high I am not sure how valid that is. But I did feel encouraged by the way I felt.

The last two nights have been wrecked by some of the comments I have received on this thread, causing me to lose part of a day's work yesterday and cancel a planned social event today as I was so agitated I could hardly sleep, so it is difficult to judge. It's not just about this but about a couple of earlier threads where I got attacked by some of the same people that popped up here, ending with the ringleader in this incident suggesting I should be cut open, which I found truly shocking.

I realise those responsible might reap satisfaction from the above but I am just being truthful.

it is a timely reminder that by definition a lot of people who use this forum are vulnerable and dealing with a lot in their lives, and you would expect that a level of civility would prevail.

I can handle blunt speaking and be blunt myself if called for but I cannot keep going through abuse.

I will persist with this experiment and report back.

Anyway, I am feeling a little better for seeing the return of sanity.

I use the same mask, however, mouthbreathing can be a problem and I hate the headgear my DME provides for it, I don't know the shape of their model, "Conehead", maybe Alien for sure. Leaks can mess up the soup. You can post Dailies from the software. On the dailies I want the leak rate under 40 LPM or lower. If things get too bad I go back to my ComfortGel FF mask. Jim

The owner of this site is a big advocate of "free speech", and so very often those who engage in uncivil/disrespectful discourse get away with it.
And the same right that you have to offer your opinion of said discourse earns them the right to say whatever it is you find uncivil.

They get to say what they say and you get to say you don't like what they say....
Freedom of speech has 2 sides to it...not just your side.
Repeatedly saying the same speech in multiple threads and posts leans toward abuse of the privilege of free speech...comes close to duplicate posts which are treated as spam.

Thanks for your earlier statement Pugsy.

Suggesting someone should be cut open oversteps any reasonable definition of free speech and some people even defended it. It was just plain sick and violent and not in any way funny if you were on the receiving end. Surely it is not in any way disrespecting the First Amendment to squash such violent, aggressive language on what is after all a forum about health for sick people, not a political boxing ring. If people want to troll and be hateful there are plenty of places on the internet for that, instead of picking on people they think are more vulnerable than they are.

tbh I was shocked and distressed that it went unpunished.

In the UK that would be regarded as hate speech and a criminal offence. Some of the character assassination was not much better.

I appreciate the site is US-based but I cannot believe your laws permit such things. I do not even want to commit to writing what I think of the offender and one of his pals really is old enough to know better. Like all bullies they are cowards, picking on perceived flaws from behind a keyboard and thousands of miles away.

I do not care what nationality or religion someone is, all I am interested in is discussing apnoeas and how to beat it.

Chalkie....I have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about "cutting someone open"...I don't see it in this thread...and I don't remember seeing it in the past but then I can't be expected to remember everything or read everything for that matter.

How about starting fresh and not bringing up past hard feelings anymore? I can't undo what someone said in the past.
I wish I could wave a magic wand but it's broke at the moment.

If you want to dwell in the past....that's up to you but we can't change it. In fact the only thing we even remotely have any control over is the here and now ....and even then it's a bit iffy.

No one has threatened physical harm to you in this thread...let it be and move on and things will be a lot less stressful for you.

For the people who you don't like to read what they say....use the Foe button and simply don't read anything they say.
That's what I do. I have a very long Foe list...people who I simply don't like and don't care to read anything they say....not worth my time and saves my blood pressure by not reading whatever it is they say. I can't stop them from speaking and I have very limited controls as to what they say or how they say it as a moderator....but I don't have to read it unless I choose to.

Do you want this thread to be about helping you with your cpap settings.....or do you want this thread to be just another public bashing about how something that got said caused you to be upset??? Your choice.
I know it sounds harsh but it is the way it is...no one has threatened you with physical violence here.
Someone did say that you got "suckered" which you took offense to. You have a right to voice your displeasure but they didn't call you a sucker...they said you got suckered. That was their opinion...and they have the same right to voice their opinion as you do.
You are going to find that a lot of what gets said on this forum gets said in a way that someone somewhere will take offense to.
No one sugar coats anything around here it seems. If you find that the tone here doesn't suit you....I don't know what to tell you because it has been this way here long before I came here 10 years ago. It is what it is. If you want a tightly moderated forum where no one can ever say anything even remotely bluntly that might hurt someone's feelings then maybe the apneaboard forum would suit your nature more. They care more about feelings than they do about accurate information.

I have seen nothing that violates the terms of agreement here. That's the rules I have to go by...that's all I can do.
I can't regulate how someone says something maybe rather bluntly and I can't regulate how you perceive the intent or what it does to you.

from Knightsleeper...
I have not made any posts between 4/2nd and yesterday...and yet, I'm a spammer?!?!?
Where did I call you a spammer?

Actually where did I mention you at all? I did copy what you said but didn't include your name because I didn't want to...because what you said gets said a lot by a lot of people and my response is the same no matter who says it.

And yes...I do see the same sort of comments made repeatedly by the same people...that's what I was referring to.

Not referring to you at all...have no idea where you got the idea that I called you a spammer. I didn't.
What I said was pointed to anyone and everyone in general who decides that they get to bitch about how Johnny allows stuff on this forum that they feel shouldn't be allowed. It's getting old. You all are big boys/gals and should know by now that just because you don't like something doesn't mean that Johnny is going to feel the same way you do.

Please don't respond to my comments here....it is off topic and I want the off topic crap to stop and stop right now.

The topic is...going rogue and changing machine settings yourself and potential results...that's the topic.

To everyone here...

News flash folks...you and I don't get to decide how to run the forum or what to allow or not allow...no matter how much we might disagree with something or someone about anything.

I fail to understand why people keep bitching and saying the same crap over and over and over again. It's not going to change...quit your bitching or move on to another forum that better suits your nature.

Just because you don't like what someone said or how they said it or you read more into it than was ever meant....doesn't mean anyone can or will do anything about it. That's not something prohibited in the terms of agreement...it's not there.

Should people be nicer to each other...sure in a perfect world but obviously this is far from a perfect world here. Johnny keeps hoping you guys will grow up and learn to play nice with each other.....I don't think you ever will but if Johnny wants to continually give you guys chances to act like an adult instead of a 2 yr old...it's his forum and he makes the rules. Until I see blatant obvious prohibited items listed in the terms of agreement...I won't/can't do anything about someone just being a smart ass here.
Lord knows we have more than our share of smart asses here.

Let's get back on topic folks...quit the discussion about personalities or smart asses or assholes....each of you know exactly who you are.

If you don't want to stay on topic then maybe we just just not let anyone learn anything and lock the thread.

Rehashing the same old crap about forum nastiness is doing nothing but fostering more nastiness.

Stay on topic which was changing of the settings....or don't comment...or no one will be able to make any comments.
Fair warning and the only warning.

So please folks...get back on topic or I will be forced to do something I really hate doing.
