I have been doing my own thing for nigh onto 9 years.
My providers simply nod their heads and accept the checks from my insurance.
They actually KNOW who's boss.
Smart monkeys.

You get the intelligent monkeys.

The rest of us are stuck with greedy human DMEs.

. . . the secret CPAP police . . .
Be careful. They're a pretty rough-looking bunch (especially the one in the middle with the chainsaw):

jnk, always up to his cheap tricks. *sigh*

Besides, I'm only really afraid of chainsaws when I'm the one operating it.

I very literally ignore my DME. They try to call me, I don't answer. They email me, I don't respond. I buy my own equipment and I manage my own therapy. I've no time for a bunch of people sitting in an office, working a job they hate, waiting for nothing else than to get off of work, telling other people constant misinformation because they don't care enough to actually know what they're doing. No time, and certainly no inclination.

Firing my DME was one of the most satisfying things I've ever done. Yes, my life is that boring.

Soon medical A.I. will fire all the monkeys and humans for us, much as Google's A.I. recently decided to have the human-run ethics board dissolved that was going to try to rain on and rein in the A.I.'s reign.

I may use my DME if I have my insurance deductible used up because I then only need to pay 20% for any supplies.

You are lucky. Some of us have to deal with the DME's

I buy filters online for dirt cheap. And those are the only "supplies" I ever need. My masks and hoses last me years.

I had to fire a few of the dumb, greedy apes before the smart monkeys showed up.
It's not pure chance.
The forum taught me that I deserve better than I got right out of the gate.
So I worked on it.
