Kbh209's CPAP questions and updates
Kbh209's CPAP questions and updates
So last year, (March 2018) after my original Resmed 10 started losing air pressure, due to a roommate delivering it to my hospital bed with the humidifier filled with water and attached, I ended up having to go to Lincare's Modesto, California office and they ended up just giving me a spare Resmed 10 that was in the office, no out of pocket costs, no charge to Medicare or Medicaid. I was thankful because I was still in year three of ownership, just nearing year four.
Fast forward to this past month and I'm noticed that the spare was starting to lose air pressure usually within an hour or two hours of running, thus preventing me from being able to get into a deep sleep. Is this common with all makes and models of aging CPAP machines or could this be a Resmed 10 only quirk? I'm not sure how old the spare actually is, since it was laying around the office.
I'm wondering since I'm about five to six months shy of owning the original for five years, if Medicare will cover a new CPAP machine?

Re: My spare CPAP machine failed - asking for advice
Not sure how getting it delivered with water would screw anything up on the machine. There are some fokes still running S8's and the machine I liked the best of them all the Resmed S9. (If its a Resmed 10)To find out how old the spare is, when the blue screen is on My options - spin the knob down to about it will show run hrs. I am sure someone more knowledgeable with Medicare will be along to help you. I would think they would replace it that close to 5 years and with this issue you mention. Might need a new script or sleep study i don't know medicare rules so don't hold me to that.

Metsfan - if you don't yet understand how transporting (in any mode) a machine with water in it could make it dysfunctional, you do need to do some serious learning - hopefully you're not planning to travel anywhere soon with your machine.

Guess I have some learning in my future. I thought that the said transporter simply put water into the machine down the hall near the nurses station. Sorry for being under-educated

Re: My spare CPAP machine failed - asking for advice
Likely, you are noticing the pressure because you mind adjusts it's thinking. Many times when you wake up after a couple of hours, you think the machine has quit blowing, it hasn't, you just adapt to the flow. By using the software you can see the flow is working, for me I put my hand in front of the vent, it's apparent it's still working. Jim

No, I know my machine. When my original machine started malfunctioning (losing pressure), it would wake me up from a deep sleep. This is the same thing with the spare, it wakes me up from my deep sleep and/or while trying to get to sleep, the pressure drops.Goofproof wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:44 amLikely, you are noticing the pressure because you mind adjusts it's thinking. @Metsfan : what happened: I was admitted to the hospital. After being admitted, I called my roommate up to bring the CPAP machine. He didn't disconnect the humidifier from the machine, and the humidifier was full of water. The water got in the machine and that was that. I did try the blow the water out per my DME but it was unsuccessful.

update: Lincare will not see me about the spare machine being broke. However, the sleep specialist wants to see me and the machine next week. I'm starting to feel like how I used to feel prior to my CPAP machine therapy.
Are there any places where I could buy a used CPAP machine, in case Medicare is a stickler about me waiting until 2020?

Secondwindcpap.com is great - many of us have ordered from and they stand behind all their equipment. Look at their site...
Re: My spare CPAP machine failed - asking for advice
I looked today and I'll be considering it in the future if my doctor cannot pull strings with Medicare. I'll have to start a GoFundMe fundraiser or call and ask SecondWind if they have a payment plan available

Medicare will pay for the repair of your machine if it can be repaired for a reasonable cost. If the cost to repair is too high, they will replace the machine.

Re: My spare CPAP machine failed - asking for advice
My friend just dropped off a Phillips Respironics REMstar Plus CPAP machine. How do I get into Physicians Mode? Also does the machine have an auto ramp mode?
Photos are top and bottom of the machine to help determine the make and model, sorry I couldn't get the images to show up on the forum

I need to set the machine to a 9 for the max pressure and if there's an auto ramp, the low end of the pressure needs to be set to 4
