BiPap back up.

Post by hev » Fri Mar 29, 2019 12:25 am

Hi, first time here.

I have read so many confusing info on back-ups for my BiPap, I would like to know if this would work.

I currently have a System one, I was thinking I could use a deep cycle marine battery and this inverter, since it has the clips. Would I need anything else?

Inverters are bad, they'll waste half of your battery.

Just get the DC cable that does with your machine.

Also, DO NOT GET a deep cycle "marine" battery.

Just get a deep cycle battery, like is used in mobility scooters.

Why not a deep cycle MARINE battery. I have not heard that before. I believe you. I would just like to know what the reason is.

More expensive for no benefit

Deep cycle MARINE batteries are often not true deep cycle, instead they may be hybrid between a starting battery and a deep cycle battery.

You pay more and do not get as much of the same deep cycle charge life span.

marine batteries are built more strongly in order to survive the pounding they receive on the waves, hence they usuallycost more (and are probably heavier for a given capacity).

There's no need to pay that premium.

Also, there are marine batteries that aren't even deep cycle... Further complicating the whole "marine" issue.

This is all covered much better in capnloki's excellent"choosing a battery" thread.

Thank you all for the answers. Glad to know no exploding cpap danger. I just bought a small battery powered boat last year and currently have a deep cycle battery and would not want to use it for cpap if there was some compelling reason I wasn't aware of.
In summary no reason not to use it, just no reason to go to the extra expense. And, man is it heavy.

IF you have a system one 60 series machine, if not, you need a different cable... the one for the system one 50 series. But, yes, broadly, that's the idea. Power the machine directly from the battery.
