Brand new Resmed Airsense 10 reporting a high water leak

Post by hopla32 » Thu Mar 28, 2019 5:57 pm

Product: Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset

Problem: This unit is for my elderly mother (she wouldn't know how to work a BB site). We picked up her brand new machine yesterday. The respiratory therapist went through all the features and everything seemed straightforward. She did mention something about partially popping out one of the silicone seals but thought she got it all tucked back in. Last night, I set it up for Mom to show her (again) how to do it. I filled the water chamber half full and slid it into position. A little water sloshed out the back but it was probably not more than a tablespoon. I turned the machine on and it started to cycle through and then stopped with the error message that a high water leak had been detected and to check the water tub, tub seal, or side cover. It's been 24 hours and I'm still getting that message despite disconnecting the water reservoir and checking the seals for fit. Of course the company's patient support line closes at 6 p.m. Eastern so no help from that quarter. I'm hoping that someone on this board has experience the same thing. I am beginning to think we have a defective unit, although it worked yesterday when the therapist demonstrated it for my mom.

Sorry about your Mom’s problem. Solve it by exchanging the questionable unit for a new unit.

I would first discount the possibility that the small spillage isn't the problem. I don't know how the machine detects a leak, or how sensitive it is, but I would imagine a tablespoon of water would be enough to alert the machine to a leak.

I've never heard of a Resmed Air10 reporting a "water" leak. They don't have any water level sensors, and they don't detect it when the machine's sitting in a puddle, (until the power plug gets eaten away by electrolysis and the machine quits working.

My guess is that the machine is reporting an excessive leak, and the OP is assuming that it's complaining about water, rather than an air leak.

On the other hand, how could water "slosh out the back" ? (of what? the machine?, that would require the water chamber to be grossly overfilled.)

Don't be put off by your unfamiliarity with the machine. It really doesn't matter how water got spilled, given that you know you did it, so you can avoid it in future.

It sounds like you're doing your best to help your elderly mum, and she probably needs it. I was 'only' 57 when I started on CPAP and I found it a challenge, so good on you.

I'm not familiar with your mum's machine, so hearing that it detected a water leak was a surprise. Neither of my two machines have such a feature. If the machine also explicitly indicated that you should check the water tub, seal, etc then it sounds like your mum's machine does indeed have that ability.

Hopefully, somebody on here with the same machine can help. It might be that some water got into the blower unit itself, where you can't reach it. Hopefully, just taking the humidifier off and operating the blower for a couple of minutes would remove any water or, if it won't run, perhaps you could invert the machine, outlet facing down, and leave it to run out.

Well, good luck. Perhaps your supplier has helped you by now. Your mum appears to be in sympathetic hands.

This is the only message that is remotely close to what the OP is reporting:

High leak detected, check your water tub, tub seal or side cover
Water tub may not be inserted properly. Make sure the water tub is correctly inserted.
Water tub seal may not be inserted properly. Open the water tub and make sure that the seal is correctly

As LSAT said, try firmly re-seating humidifier.

Ensure tank is put together properly including gasket.
Swap humidifier tank.

Lots of good advice. But why take a. chance with a brand new unit? Exchange it.

She did mention something about partially popping out one of the silicone seals but thought she got it all tucked back in.
If this is the seal she's referring to then that could be the problem.

A missing or improperly placed silicone seal explains the massive leak and possibly even water behind the machine from sloshing.
