mask purchasing

Post by cubby » Fri Mar 22, 2019 2:54 pm

I'm looking at getting a new mask as i dislike mine. Thinking about the dreamware one. i need a full face as i'm a mouth breather but i'm also one who toss and turns and side sleeps. i thought this would maybe be a good fit. My DME (which sucks anyways) doesnt carry it. Where's a good safe place to order online with out a script? Any other suggestions for mask?

Amazon sometimes has full mask packages...so that's an option.
You can always buy the parts from anyone as parts don't require a RX.

What size do you think you might need?
Someone donated a ResMed F30 in size small... Have you tried or seen it?
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... k-headgear
Minimally used by the donor and I stuck it on my face for about 30 seconds just to try it out for grins.
You could always buy a different size cushion as a separate purchase.
Headgear is universal.

If you end up wanting to buy the DreamWear full face mask in pieces....check with me as I have some spare parts but I don't have a complete mask...and let me know size and I will see if I have a part you could use and save you having to buy at least that part.

The forum host, cpap.com, offers free "return insurance" on most masks. Many on-line places do not. But be sure to read the restrictions in advance. It's all too easy to blow past the return deadline, as I have done :-)

Mask fit is very individual. The F20 seals ok for me, relative to my tossing and turning, better than the Dreamwear FF or the F30 FF. The headgear is better and more adjustable on the F30 than the F20. For me, though, the F30 just won't seal well below my lower lip wheras F20 seals fine for me. So you'll have to try for yourself.

Pricing is better for the Dreamwear FF on-line. I was able to buy a full Dreamwear FF fit pack for cheap (no "return insurance"). The F30 doesn't come in fit packs last I checked.

He needs to buy from someplace where he doesn't need a RX on file.

Unfortunately cpap.com requires a RX to be on file and there is no wiggle room in that regard.

the op says in that very chunk you quoted "where's a good safe place to order online with out a script?".

cpap.com requires a script, unless they have changed rules since my last mask purchase.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Doh! That's what I get for reading too fast. Thanks for the correction.

The place I bought my Dreamwear fit kit didn't require a script. Worked out fine, though they seemed a bit dodgy.

I can PM the details if interested.

Why can't you get a script? Primary Care Doctor? PA? Dentist?....

In the US, you have a RIGHT to your own medical records.
This includes a copy of your cpap prescription.
Just ask.

I have bought six or seven masks - all Resmed - off eBay. All good so far and one in particular was a fantastic deal, from a guy in France who was liquidating his stock. I paid AUD80 for a complete mask/headgear that typically costs AUD200 from a regular dealer in Australia.

Now that I know how long the parts last, I plan to replace just the cushion next time around.

I'm on my tablet so I'm going to try to just answer everyone in one reply. The F30 might be nice. I think all I'd need is the mask as the straps I have for my F20 would work. I'm going to look at that more. The F20 is ok but the hard spot between my eyes on my nose is annoying and I'm constantly getting air in my eyes as that pushes up on my side's. For size I'm a medium to large is what the dme had said.
As for the RX I guess I could get one. I wasn't really thinking as the Dr sent it all to DME that was covered on my insurance. That Dme sucks. In my head I was just thinking buying a mask on my own and bypassing the Dme. I'll look around more and call my Dr when I have a better idea

Jason off free cpap advice sells used masks on his other website for great prices, like half off almost and barely worn. Maskbright, I think.

Just ask your doctor for a RX for cpap mask of your choice so that you can make use of free return insurance available from online sellers so you can try stuff in between the replacement schedule that your insurance allows. You don't really have to go into your displeasure with your DME...he should be understanding of the need to get masks at a cheaper than what a DME costs when insurance isn't used and the ability to return it and get a refund (which DMEs won't do anyway even if you did buy a mask out of pocket).
