CPAP in Nightstand Drawer & Essential Oils Questions

Post by JCWarrior » Sat Mar 09, 2019 9:27 am

Since starting CPAP almost 5 years ago, I have kept my CPAP in my nightstand drawer. This cuts down on noise and saves space.
I keep the drawer clean but I notice the smell of wood.

I started using Lavender essential oil on a cotton ball near the intake but I still smell the woo sometimes
I've also been experimenting with diluting the oil but sometimes I think the Lavender scent might be a little harsh (for lack of a better term.

My questions are:

1) Is anyone else putting their CPA in a drawer and, if so, any tips on getting rid of the drawer smell a bit?

2) I have an essential oils store near me and I am going to it today to see if I can perhaps find another oil to blend with the Lavender. Any tips on scents would be appreciated.
I want to avoid strong scents and am looking for something mellow.... Vanilla comes to mind.

You don't like the smell of woo?

ooooooooooo ooooooooooooo that smell. Can't you smell that smell.

Take the drawers out, paint, seal or stain all exposed wood. Don't use oil based.

I have used the drawer for years. at one time I thought I smelled a slight wood odor and I started leaving the drawer partially open during the day and closed at night.

Have better built nightstands, glues used in pressed wood (scrap) bleed odor, good stuff is Cedar, Pine Walnut. Pick something you like to smell. Factory made wood out of scrap and toxic glues do off gas stuff better not breathed. Jim

I once cut down a Catalpa tree and stored it on my enclosed front porch to dry before burning in the fireplace, the smell that filled the house was great. Sealing the wood you have might help, not just the drawers but the whole nightstand, then line the drawer with Cedar if you like the smell of it.

If you're handy, maybe you can extend the intake with a used mask and a hose that you're not using anymore

My CPAP has been in the drawer since I moved off the top of the nightstand after I pulled it off 5 or six times on night 1.

but of course, you now know that's no way to treat your cpap, right?

Oh its OK - that one was a discontinued non-data compliant brick my first DME wanted me to pay $200 for every month for 15 months.
I took that one back after the second monthly bill arrived.

Since then, all my CPAP machines have had a safe space in the drawer.

Although my current one might get thrown across the room next time it glitches!
