Depending on how much distilled water you use, the humid-x cost is only about 2x that of distilled water.
You don't need to use distilled water.
Please elaborate.

distilled water prevents mineral buildup in your tank, but otherwise is no advantage. If you are willing to clean your tank more frequently, and maybe use vinegar to remove mineral buildups, tap or any other clean water is fine. I always use tap water when traveling (in the USA), and I only use distilled at home because I am lazy about cleaning out my tank.

I've been using the Airmini daily since 2017 (3 years now) as I spend at least two nights a week away from home and I travel often. So far, it works as it did when I first bought it. The only thing that has degraded is the info on the app. It now says the machine was not in use for a week back, even though I use it every night. The missing day's info appears at a week delay. Annoying, but not essential.
I don't use the humidex pucks as I find I have no need for them in the climate I live in. The only things I've replaced have been the hose and mask.
