I use my old standard hoses. After washing, I put a towel on my bed and whack the hose against the towel a few times -- this gets rid of a lot of the water. Then , I hook it up to my old, old, old (2007) data-less CPAP set on pressure 20, and let it run for 15-20 minutes. Voila, dry hose.

Thank you all very much for the various suggestions. It has now been 4 days since I washed the tubing, so hopefully tonight is the night that it will not sputter and spit any longer. If it does, I know to turn on the preheating setting and chill for a bit. So much wonderful information on this site. I am really happy to be a part of this forum. Muse-Inc - your idea was really original and thinking outside the box. I have an older machine,so that would work for me, too.

Well, after five days, the darn tube was still sputtering and crackling, so this afternoon I hooked it up to my machine, took the memory card out and turned on the machine for about twenty or thirty minutes, and even attached the mask. I think it helped, as I didn't hear any noise after that. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. I am not sure when, if ever, I will wash it again.

This happened to me one night- I think I actually posted it on here, too. I thought at first my hose had stopped heating but I think it was just that the room had gotten so much colder than usual. I did set my thermostat up a bit and it has never happened again.

I used to wash my hose out every couple weeks on my first machine but since I got the heated hose it seems completely unnecessary. My old hose would always have water droplets left in it in the morning and I just felt like I should rinse that out and let it dry every so often but the heated one doesn't seem to do that, water doesn't seem to condense in it as long as my room isn't too cold. I do use a cozy on it, too. So, I figure, why wash it? Only distilled water vapor and filtered air go through it. And if it doesn't sit there wet all day, I don't see a need. But then, I don't have pets- I don't know if I had pet hair floating around, I might have to reassess.

I spoke too soon. Seven days today since we cleaned the tubing, and the darn heated tubing is still making so much noise it would be impossible to sleep with it. I used just the therapy blowing on it on two separate occasions. I called Sleep Central yesterday and explained what happened, and they were kind enough to offer to send me a new heated tube. However, I am afraid it might have done something to the electric connection on the humidifier. I was in bed a few minutes short of nine hours (retirement is great), and once before with the heated tubing when I had a similar long night, the humidifier was totally empty. Today it was not much less than the maximum fill line. But, of course, today was using the non-heated tubing, if that makes any difference in water levels.

What are your thoughts on the possibility that any moisture in the heated tubing might have damaged the humidifier, and if so, is there any way to check to see if it is working? Thank you so much for any assistance or thoughts on this matter.

Water consumption...2 big variables...the humidity setting obviously and even bigger is the ambient humidity in the bedroom.
If ambient humidity is high you won't use much water even at maximum humidity setting.
Pressures used and leaks will also affect water consumption.

Highly unlikely that water in the hose alone could damage the humidifier. They have that dry box technology down pat and it's hard to get water in the humidifier even if you turn the machine upside down.

To test things...turn the machine on and let it blow for about 15 minutes (you may need to turn auto off...off so that it will just blow) and then pull out the water chamber and check to see if it is warm on the bottom of the water chamber.

What setting did you use for humidity last night with the non heated hose...and what is your ambient humidity? Been raining in your area lately?

About that - well, the thing is - after over 8 1/2 hours in bed last night, (I forgot to mention) when I took the water chamber out to refill, it was not warm at all on the bottom. Would that negate the necessity of the check-up you just suggested or not? Also, the humidification is set to Adaptive. I am not really sure what that means. That said, there doesn't seem to be any interruption in the airflow, so that part appears to be working normally. I'm doing the test you suggested now - just to be sure, and I have the timer on for fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes have elapsed, and test is done. The plate under the water chamber was only slightly warm - just enough to tell it was warming, and the plate in the humidifier was much warmer, but still not painful to touch. Would you say, then, that it is likely that the humidifier itself is not damaged or defective?

Having to refill the humidifier is pretty compelling evidence that it's working.
