Bull on CBS - Season 3 Episode 15 - "Security Fraud"

Post by ChicagoGranny » Tue Feb 19, 2019 3:45 pm

Gramps and I were watching this. Bull is working with an older attorney and slowly begins to realize the attorney is losing his memory. Later, the attorney falls asleep for 90 minutes sitting up in a meeting and snoring. I waited for Gramps to speak. He finally said what we were both thinking, "That attorney wouldn't be having memory problems if he would have started using CPAP 15 years ago."

I was just wondering if anyone else watched this episode and thought the same thing.

Luckily, I never fell asleep in court hearings, trials, settlement negotiations or meetings with clients; but from time to time, in the evening after a long day at work, I had to attend board meetings of various organizations, and I was reminiscing the other day about how I fought to stay awake in those meetings, even resorting to pinching my arms to try to avoid falling asleep but inevitably would slump over and completely zonk out during the duration of the meeting. It was so embarrassing that eventually I had to decline further nominations to board posts. And/or I was no longer asked!
Years and years went by before I took a sleep test and was diagnosed with sleep apnea! I didn't have a clue!

Regards, Nate :D

I fell asleep on guard duty, standing up! Been awake working 24 hour prior guard, hit the ground with my M 14A2,imbeded the charge lever in my side. Quick wake up, with pain. Jim

So sorry. The medical profession needs to do better. Every physical exam should include a questionnaire about sleep, snoring, fatigue, excess sleepiness during the day, etc.

   I am an attorney, now retired.
I remember taking that questionnaire, accompanied by my sig.other. Apparently, I was still in denial because my answers did not score high enough. I didn't then recall those past events.
Luckily, they had her also fill out the questionnaire about me, and all the bells, whistles and gongs then went off in spades! In fact, she wrote that there were many nights when she was just about to call fire rescue when I would suddenly resume breathing.

But your criticism of the medical profession is well-taken. Prior to the visit to the sleep doctor, she had repeatedly tried to relate her observations to my primary care physician during routine checkups over a couple of years, and he had ignored her concerns.

Best wishes, Nate :D

Our PCP was much more attentive. When I mentioned that my wife was snoring and would stop breathing while sleeping, she immediately scheduled her for a sleep study. Now, we have matching machines.

Man, I've been there before. I've never fallen asleep in court, but then I'm usually only in the room long enough to testify. I have spontaneously fallen asleep in meetings, waiting for court, working at my desk, etc. I've also fallen back on pinching myself or otherwise causing some kind of pain to stay awake, even stomping the tops of my own feet. Well, before beginning CPAP at least, doesn't happen so much anymore.

I just finished binge watching all of "Boston Legal" so I immediately thought "Mad Cow!"

I thought the same thing when watching that episode of Bull. I also fell asleep at inopportune times, such as while in a business meeting I was conducting. But the one that takes the cake for me is I fell asleep in my disability hearing. Hey, it got pretty boring when they were fleshing out the details. I was startled awake when the pencil fell from my hand.
