EZ start on cpap

Post by SherriT » Tue Feb 12, 2019 6:43 pm

I am currently using the CPAP mode on the Dream Station. It is set at 18. I am trying to understand the difference between smartramp and EZ start. The ramp is turned on but if the EZ smart is turned off, it goes straight to 18. Also, with EZ start, does it stay at a low pressure until I fall asleep? I want to be sure the pressure will go up after I fall asleep. I tried starting right at 18 but that was hard.

"ezstart" is a 'feature' that basically denies you adequate treatment pressure for a couple of weeks (depending on what you need)... it automatically raises the max pressure 1 cm a night, so you lay there having substandard treatment for *days*.

Smartramp, or just ramp, is what you want to keep pressure low till you fall asleep.

Oh ok. So I definitely don’t want that. I didn’t realize until right now that I have to push the ramp button as well as the start button. My previous machine - resmed- had an automatic ramp I think. So confusing.

EZStart works its starting pressure by 1 cm each night over several night depending on how far it wants to go.
Example...it might use 6 cm all night tonight...tomorrow night 7 cm all night...next night 8 cm all night.
Doesn't matter if you are asleep or not. You don't want that.

What you want is for SmartRamp to be turned on in the clinical setup menu and then when you push the ramp button on the outside of the machine when you start it...Smart ramp is being used and not regular ramp but you have to first set it in the setup menu area.
And yes..you do also have to push the ramp button on the outside also.

Thank you for that. I had it set up in the clinical settings but hadn’t been shown that I need to hit the ramp button. After much back and forth with my vendor, they want me to try Cpap at 18 for at least a week. They won’t try increasing my pressure over 18 without my Dr ordering it. I am trying to be patient and stay calm- easier said than done when exhausted.

They can't change it without a doctors orders but YOU can. I was miserable for weeks because my dme wouldn't change anything, found this place and have been setting it myself ever since.
